Instructions to Authors

Phytoparasitica publishes original research contributions on the biological, chemical and molecular aspects of Entomology, Plant Pathology, Virology, Nematology, and Weed Sciences, including Trilogy (insecticides, fungicides, herbicides) and other biocides. Emphasis is laid on new approaches in the control of pests and diseases. Each issue includes a Guest Editorial, authored by a recognized authority in one of the above disciplines. Papers reporting routine control experiments will not be accepted. Authors of review papers should consult with the editors prior to preparation of the manuscript. Short communications [Notes] are acceptable, provided that they are based on adequate experimental evidence and do not exceed 4 pages in print, including at most one table or figure. All manuscripts are peer-reviewed by experts selected by the Editorial Board, and the author is given an opportunity to revise the paper in accordance with the referees' and editors' suggestions. The final responsibility for the selection of papers rests with the Editorial Board. Correspondence should be addressed to: Executive Editor, Phytoparasitica, P.O. Box 2385, Rehovot 76123, Israel. Fax: 8-9365858; e-mail: vrpriel@priel.co.il. Authors should include their fax number and e-mail address with their full institutional address on all correspondence. Submission of a manuscript to Phytoparasitica implies that the manuscript consists of unpublished new information and does not contain any material that has been published or is under review or consideration for publication elsewhere.

Manuscript
The journal is computer-composed. Authors may submit their manuscript as an attachment via e-mail (vrpriel@priel.co.il), with separate files for figures and tables; and the text transmitted as a Word file (.doc extension); a hard copy of the manuscript and two copies of all illustrations should be sent by mail. Alternatively, mss. should be submitted in four complete hard copies, one-and-a-half spacing throughout, and accompanied by a computer diskette on which the material has been saved. Indicate the units of measure for each variable; the metric system should be used. Appropriate estimates of variation must be provided with the means. The names of insects and insecticides should be in accordance with the Entomological Society of America; of herbicides, in accordance with the Weed Science Society of America; and of fungicides and nematicides, in accordance with the American Phytopathological Society. All words which are to be italicized in print, such as names of genera, species and viruses, should appear in italics in the manuscript.

References
References should be numbered and listed in alphabetical order, as follows: name and initial(s) of every author; year of publication, in parentheses; exact title of paper; abbreviated title of periodical according to the Serial Sources for the BIOSIS Data Base; volume number in Arabic numerals; first and last page numbers. The references should be cited in the text by number, in parentheses. The reference list should include only works cited in the text, and only those which have been published or are in press, and which are printed in English or have an English summary. Unpublished material should be confined to text footnotes.

Illustrations
Camera-ready figures and photographs, in their final size for printing in the journal, must be submitted with the manuscript. They should be identified on the back by number, and with the author's name. Abbreviations must be identical to those used in the text and should be defined in each caption. Photographs should be printed on glossy paper with good contrast. Computer-generated figures are acceptable if they meet journal specifications. They should be generated on a high-quality laser printer; dot-matrix printers are not acceptable. A list of captions should be typed on a separate page. There is a charge of $10 per black and white figure or photograph published in Phytoparasitica.
