About the journal
|
 |
Critique of Anthropology is dedicated to the development of anthropology as a discipline that subjects social reality to critical analysis. The journal challenges received wisdoms inside academic anthropology and in society at large, presenting work that is innovative, challenging, sometimes experimental and often uncomfortable.
"Critique of Anthropology adopts a critical spirit and self-reflection to produce significant anthropology in the present and to promote a more disciplined and principled anthropology for the future." - Richard Fox Washington University
"I have read and enjoyed Critique of Anthropology from its very first issue. It is a journal that has always been agile in picking up and debating new substantive and theoretical issues in anthropology. Throughout the years it has become a useful teaching tool, providing valuable insights into the developments in our discipline." - Verena Stolcke Universitat Aut¨°noma de Barcelona
"Critique of Anthropology has been the only anthropological journal with a genuinely distinctive personality in recent times." - Maurice Bloch London School of Economics
"I welcome Critique of Anthropology's particular mix of new answers to old questions and searching examinations of new departures." - Eric Wolf City University of New York |
Instructions to Authors
Paper submission. Three copies of the MS should be sent to The Editorial Administrator, Critique of Anthropology, Anthropology Department, Goldsmiths College, Lewisham Way, New Cross, London, SE14 6NW, UK. Fax: (+44) 020 7919 781. Submissions are also accepted in MS Word format to: critique@gold.ac.uk
Authors should retain one copy for themselves, as unsolicited mss cannot be returned.
Articles are read by members of the editorial group and outside referees, and once provisionally accepted for publication may still be returned to the author for approval and implementation of editorial suggestions and criticisms. On final acceptance, articles are passed to the coordinating editors of the issue in which they will appear, who are responsible for all further correspondence with the author.
The editors will from time to time accept an article for translation into English, once publication has been agreed in principle. But this is a time-consuming process, and contributors are requested to submit in English if at all possible.
The English equivalents to technical foreign words and phrases should always be included. We would prefer authors to avoid using sexist turns of phrase (e.g. the anthropologist and his field data).
Presentation. Articles should be typed double-spaced throughout (including notes and bibliography). Notes should be end notes. There is no absolute limit on length, but 7000 words, including notes and bibliography, is a useful target. Articles should be submitted on 3.5 inch discs in IBM PC format and must be accompanied by one hard copy and must include an abstract (100-150 words), five to ten key words and three to five lines of biographical information.
Tables, charts, diagrams, etc., should be submitted in camera-ready form. For photographic essays send good b/w prints, not negatives.
References cited in the text should use the form: Smith (1990: 26). The following style should be used for assembling the bibliography:
Articles in journals: Feder, Ernest (1980) 'The Odious Competition between Man and Animal over Agricultural Resources in Under-developed Countries', Review III(3): 463-500.
Books: Lunn, Eugene (1985) Marxism and Modernism: An Historical Study of Lukacs, Brecht, Benjamin and Adorno. London: Verso.
Chapters in books: Fodor, Jerry (1989) 'Why Should the Mind be Modular?', in Alexander George (ed.) Reflections on Chomsky, pp. 179-202. Oxford: Blackwell.
Authors will receive 25 offprints of their article and a copy of the journal on publication.
Permissions. Authors are responsible for obtaining permissions from copyright holders for reproducing any illustrations, tables, figures, or lengthy quotations previously published elsewhere.
Affiliation. The article title page should include the full name(s) of the author(s), academic or other personal affiliation, and the complete address (plus electronic mail address and telefax number where available) of the author to whom correspondence should be sent.
Copyright. Before publication authors are requested to assign copyright to SAGE Publications, subject to retaining their right to reuse the material in other publications written or edited by themselves, and due to be published at least one year after initial publication in the Journal.
