| Scope. The International Journal of Gynecological Pathology is dedicated to advances in gynecological pathology, especially those that lead to improved patient care or to a better understanding of human gynecological disease. Primary emphasis will be placed on investigation of human disorders mainly in the field of anatomic pathology. Articles devoted to basic experimental research or lower animal pathology will be considered if clearly related to an understanding of human disease. The journal itself may solicit the submission of review articles, progress reports, editorials, symposia, etc., and will be pleased to review submissions along these lines from its readers and the Society membership.
Address for Contributors. Send manuscripts with a cover letter that includes the corresponding author's e-mail address to Philip B. Clement, M.D., International Journal of Gynecological Pathology, Department of Pathology, Vancouver Hospital & Health Sciences Centre, 910 West 10th Avenue, Room 1302, Vancouver, B.C., CANADA V5Z 4E3; Telephone (604) 875-5555, ext. 62320; Fax (604) 875-5685 or 875-5707; E-mail: pclement@vanhosp.bc.ca.
Form of Manuscripts. An original and two copies of each manuscript must be submitted, in English, in double-spaced, typewritten form with a margin of at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) on all sides. (Do not use “erasable?bond.) Submit a disk only with the final accepted manuscript along with a printout of the final accepted manuscript. The text of the manuscript should be in the following sequence: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments, References, Tables, and Figure Legends. Pages should be numbered in succession, the title page being page one.
The title page of each manuscript should include only the article title, authors' names and affiliations, name, address, e-mail address, and telephone number of the person to whom proofs and reprint requests should be addressed, any necessary footnotes to these items, and a running title not exceeding 40 letters and spaces. Indicate specific affiliations of each author. Information concerning sources of financial support should be placed in the Acknowledgment section between Discussion and References.
The page following the title page should include a brief abstract of up to 200 words describing the purpose, methods, results, and conclusions of the study, and up to six key words or terms.
Brief Communications. These are abbreviated Case Reports that occupy only two journal pages. Manuscripts intended as Brief Communications should be labelled as such. The space constraints of a Brief Communication will usually require a very succinct Summary (Abstract) and no more than two figures and ten references. Manuscripts intended as Brief Communications that are accepted for publication but exceed the required length may be returned to the authors for appropriate revision.
Editorial Assistance. This courtesy will be extended to foreign authors who may have difficulty with the English language. Corrected manuscripts will be returned to the authors for final review and approval.
Tables and Illustrations. Tables should be typed neatly, each on a separate sheet, with title above and any notes below. Explain all abbreviations. Do not give the same information in tables and figures. Line drawings should be submitted as three sets of clear glossy prints, with lettering of high standard and large enough to be legible when reduced. Halftone photographs should be submitted in duplicate in the form of original photographic prints; photocopies will not be accepted. An overlay should be provided showing which area of the photograph requires greatest definition, and scale bars (when appropriate) should be provided on the photographs. There will be a maximum of four page plates per article; each may accommodate 2-6 prints. Prints should be sized to fit within one column (between 4 and 8 cm), or, if needed, across two columns (between 10 and 16.9 cm). Inappropriately sized material will be cropped by the Editorial office or reduced by the publisher.
On the back of each figure affix a label giving the figure number and authors' names, and indicate the top of the figure with an arrow. Each figure must be accompanied by an explanatory legend, typewritten and double spaced (do not use a separate sheet for each legend). Explain all symbols used in the figure. Color illustrations will be charged to the author; the cost will be given upon request. When the final (revised) version of the manuscript is submitted, the figures can be submitted electronically (at least 300 dpi).
Abbreviations. Follow the CBE Style Manual (available from the Council of Biology Editors, 9650 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20814, U.S.A.) or other standard sources.
References. References are to be cited in the text by number and numbered in the order in which they are cited. The reference section should be typed double-spaced at the end of the text, following the sample formats given below. For abbreviations of journal names, refer to List of Journals Indexed in Index Medicus (available from the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C. 20402, U.S.A. DHEW Publication No. (NIH) 87-267; ISSN 0093-3821). Provide all authors' names where there are three or fewer co-authors, article titles, and inclusive pages. If there are more than three co-authors, list only the first three and use et al. Accuracy of reference data is the responsibility of the author.
