About the journal

Pharmacotherapy is devoted to publication of original research articles on all aspects of human pharmacology and review articles on drugs and drug therapy. The editors and editorial board invite original research reports on pharmacokinetic, bioavailability, and drug interaction studies, clinical trials, investigations of specific pharmacological properties of drugs, and related topics.

Original reports are published in one of the following departments:

  • Original Research Articles. These are full-length original research articles in such areas as therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacoeconomics.
  • Brief Reports. These original research reports are preliminary reports of studies that have a high potential for significant impact.
  • Practice Insights. These articles report innovative clinical practice or pharmacoeconomic advances, which may be centered in any practice setting such as the community, hospital, clinic, or a collaborative practice. An assessment of clinical or humanistic outcomes is required.
  • Case Reports. Case reports detail interesting clinical cases that provide relevant insights into drug therapy. Authors are encouraged to include an extensive review of the literature.

Review articles may be spontaneously submitted or may be prepared at the invitation of the editor. Authors are encouraged to call and suggest possible topics. Most reviews are published in one of the following departments:

  • Reviews of Therapeutics. These articles are state-of-the-art reviews on the drug treatment of specific diseases, or are comprehensive critical reviews of recently marketed drugs.
  • Minireviews. These are brief, concise, and focused articles on controversies, dilemmas, and significant changes in drug therapy including important new drugs that may be in late-phase trials or have been recently marketed.
  • Alternative Viewpoints. This correspondence clarifies or challenges any of our previously published articles and, whose publication, would benefit the readership in general. Submissions to this department must be received within 3 months of the publication of the article in question.

All manuscripts are subject to review by qualified consultants and the editors, and are accepted for publication if they are thought to be important contributions to the biomedical literature. The manuscript checklist (see checklist below), must accompany submitted pages. Authors are invited to call the editor to clarify any issues. The manuscript requirements of Pharmacotherapy generally conform to the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (Ann Intern Med 1982;96(1 Part 1): 766&endash;71).

The content of Pharmacotherapy is protected by copyright. Manuscripts are accepted for publication with the understanding that their contents, all or in part, have not been published elsewhere, except in abstract form, or by the express consent of the editor. Pharmacotherapy accepts no responsibility for statements made by contributors.

Advertising is accepted, subject to the editor's approval, for prescription drugs and related products used by health practitioners in patient care. Inquiries should be addressed to the advertising representative, Professional Media Group, 40 North Woodbury Road, Pitman, NJ 08071 (telephone 800-486-5454).

Requests for change of address should be sent in writing to the publisher at least 6 weeks before the change is effective. Missing issues will be replaced at no charge up to 3 months following the date of issue. A charge of $10 per missing issue will be assessed for claims received after 3 months but less than 12 months following the date of issue. Thereafter, the full back-issue price will be charged.

Secondary services that cover articles in Pharmacotherapy include Biological Abstracts, Chemical Abstracts, Current Contents, Excerpta Medica, Index Medicus, Current Awareness in Biological Sciences, and Referativnyi Zhurnal. Pharmacotherapy is microfilmed by University Microfilms International of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
