Introducing SciTopics - the new free online expert generated knowledge sharing service. Designed as a perfect starting point for scientific research, SciTopics integrates a content publishing platform with search functionalities and community features. January 20, 2009 Our editors have long-standing and distinguished careers in their respective fields. Some recent achievements are highlighted in this section, as well as recent appointments. Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale received the annual prize for excellent research from the Research Council of Norway. The award - amounting to 500.000 NOK - was handed over by Tora Aasland - Minister of Education and Research.
According to the jury: "Anne Lise Børresen-Dale ranks among the foremost experts in the country in the field of cancer research. Throughout a period of many years she has conducted ground-breaking research of excellent quality in a number of fields within her subject area. She has made decisive discoveries in research on lung cancer, testicular cancer, colon cancer and - in particular - breast cancer. Børresen-Dale has demonstrated outstanding skills as a builder of scientific milieus. She is involved in a large number of collaboration projects, both nationally and internationally. In 2008 she was elected president of the European Association for Cancer Research . Her research will gain a major clinical significance within diagnostics, therapy and cancer diseases."

Marion Broome, PhD, RN, FAAN, editor in chief of Nursing Outlook, has been appointed to the National Advisory Council for Nursing Research at the National Institutes of Health . Her service begins in September.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rhys Williams (Swansea, UK) has been named the new Editor-in-Chief of Primary Care Diabetes as of July 2008. Professor Williams takes over from Professor Guy Rutten (Utrecht, The Netherlands) who has been acting as Editor-in-Chief since the journal’s launch in 2007. Primary Care Diabetes is the official journal of Primary Care Diabetes Europe (PCDE).
Eugene Hughes, Chairman of PCDE, welcomed the appointment, “It is a great honour to have someone as distinguished as Rhys Williams taking over as Editor-in-Chief of the journal. We will aim to build on the solid foundation, and international reputation that has been created since the launch.?/P>

Submissions were accepted in the following categories:
Regular Sessions Symposia (invited participants only) Colbert Award (formerly the Student Poster Prize) Romer Prize Session Preparators?Session
Submission and Presentation Guidelines:
Adherence to Guidelines Abstract Submission Guidelines Author Submission Policy Abstract Submission Format Presentation Guidelines
Adherence to Guidelines Feedback from previous meeting evaluations has indicated a need to reinforce presentation and poster preparation guidelines. Please review and adhere to the guidelines in this section.
Abstract Submission DEADlines The Romer Prize abstract submission period is: Monday, January 19 at NOON Central Time Zone (US) through Thursday, March 19 at NOON Central Time Zone (US).
All other abstracts (except for applicants for the Program for Scientists from Economically Developing Nations) have a submission period of: Wednesday, February 18 at NOON Central Time Zone (US) through Monday, April 20 at NOON Central Time Zone (US).
Author Submission Policy Only ONE (1) first-authored abstract per person will be considered for review. This does not preclude the inclusion of an individual's name on other, jointly-authored abstracts. SVP will enforce this policy, regardless of whether the presentations are in a symposium or regular session.
A maximum of FIVE (5) authors, one (1) primary and a maximum of four (4) secondary authors will be permitted for all abstracts. This will be strictly enforced.
IMPORTANT! At least one (1) author on any abstract submitted must be a member of SVP. NOTE: for the 2009 SVP 69th Annual Meeting and the 57th Symposium of Vertebrate Palaeontology and Comparative Anatomy (SVPCA), at least one author on any abstract submitted must be either a member of SVP or be a past attendee of the SVPCA.
Abstract Submission Format Abstracts are limited to 2,200 characters (including spaces and punctuation), excluding title and authors.

PRESENTATION GUIDELINES Click here for the presenter audio-visual instructions and requirements. It is critical that you follow the specific guidelines when preparing your presentation.
Both PC and MAC platforms will be available for presenters.
All oral presentations must be made using Powerpoint?or Keynote? Presentations must be loaded in the Speaker Ready Room at the annual meeting when you arrive at the meeting. Slide carousels and overhead projectors will not be available at the 2009 SVP Meeting.
Special Presentations Abstracts submitted for symposia, the Student Poster Prize and the Preparators' Session are subject to the same timetable and review criteria as regular submissions. The Romer Prize abstract submission period will open before the regular abstract submission period (see dates under Abstract Submission Guidelines above). Romer Prize abstracts will be subject to the same review criteria as regular submissions.
Please note that we will be enforcing the long-standing SVP policy of accepting only one first-authored presentation per person regardless of whether it is in a symposium or regular session.
Formatting and content criteria apply to all abstracts submitted for the 2009 meeting, including invited symposium and preparators abstracts.
Speaker Ready Room It is strongly recommended that all presenters practice their presentation in the Speaker Ready Room prior to their talk. One speaker ready room will be available during the meeting. Space and practice equipment will be limited.
Poster Presentation In order to achieve the best exchange of ideas and information, authors are asked to be present at their posters when the viewing sessions are unopposed by platform sessions. Three poster sessions will be offered this year. You will be notified by the Program Committee this summer of acceptance and the poster session to which you are assigned.
One horizontal poster display board is provided for each presenter. Each unframed board measures approximately 8' wide and 4' tall (243.88 cm x 121 cm). Boards may be one inch (2.54 cm) smaller in either direction.
Display boards are double-sided and will be shared by two presenters, one on each side. Due to space constraints, no table or electrical outlets can be provided for poster presentations.
Boards are covered with a cloth material that will hold Velcro tabs and long tacks. Velcro will give you the best results for hanging your display. Use the "male" or hook side of the Velcro on your display.
You must bring your own materials for attaching illustrations to the boards (Velcro, tacks, etc.). Additional items, such as electrical power and audiovisual equipment, will not be provided.
Poster Removal: It is essential that presenters clear their poster board promptly and within the schedule. Materials left on a poster board after the removal deadline will be discarded.
SVP is not responsible for materials left behind, lost, stolen or damaged.
As a courtesy to other presenters, do not move or remove poster numbers or change the order of the assigned poster boards.
