"International Sociology displays a remarkable international scope that would be difficult for any other journal to match. It is a valuable resource for understanding the range of sociological studies conducted all over the world." Hiroshi Ishida University of Tokyo, Japan
"International Sociology is an important gathering place for some of the leading thinkers of our time. Innovative blends of theory, method, and evidence are brought to bear on the critical questions facing social scientists and their audiences." Charles Ragin University of Arizona/Tucson, USA
International Sociology publishes studies of the highest quality in social organization, societal change and comparative sociology.
The journal draws together work of cross-cultural relevance from the international community of sociologists, focusing on fundamental issues of theory and method, and on new directions in empirical research. Articles come from all branches of the discipline and from all regions of the world.

Instructions to Authors
Notes for Authors
1. Contributions may be submitted in any language, but will be published only in English. Contributions in English may be sent to the editor or associate editors, in other languages to the appropriate editor, as indicated below. Where there is no indication of editorial coverage of a language, advice should be sought from the editor. Authors of papers in other languages may receive translation assistance in suitable cases. Papers are refereed by an international panel whose names appear in the fourth issue of each year. If an author wishes to have an essay that was previously published in a foreign language considered by the journal for first publication in English translation, he or she should so state at the time of submission and provide relevant copyright approval for the first publication to International Sociology.
2. Contributions are considered for publication only on the understanding that they are not simultaneously under consideration elsewhere in English, that they are the original work of the author(s), and that any previous form of publication and any current consideration in other languages are disclosed. Authors assign copyright to the International Sociological Association.
3. Standard length of papers is 6000 words, but shorter contributions are also welcomed. They should be typed, double spaced on one side of the paper with margins of 3 cm.
4. Two copies should be submitted. They will not normally be returned, so authors should ensure that a copy is kept.
5. A virus-free 3 1/2 inch disk with manuscript formatted in Word for Windows, IBM compatible (versions of Word Perfect are acceptable but not preferred), should be sent. Disks should be labeled with the name of the article, the author, and the software used.
6. Title, author's name, full address and brief biographical note should be typed on a separate sheet.
7. An abstract of 100-200 words and about 5 key words should also be typed on a separate sheet.
8. Figures, maps and diagrams should be precisely and boldly drawn to permit photographic reproduction. Use single quotation marks (except for quotes within quotes).
9. Notes should appear at the end of the text. Referencing in the text should be as follows: (Archer 1982 : 157).
Recommended style for the bibliography is: Archer, M.S., ed. (1982) The Sociology of Education Expansion. London: Sage.
Sayad, A. (1984) 'Tendances et courants des publications en Sciences Sociales sur I'immigration en France depuis 1960', Current Sociology 32 : 219-304.
Weibull, A. (1994) 'European Officers' Job Satisfaction and Job Commitment', Current Sociology 42(3): 57-70.
10. Authors receive proofs of their articles, 25 offprints of the published version and one copy of the journal. Authors are responsible for obtaining copyright permission for reproducing any illustrations, tables, figures or lengthy quotations published elsewhere.
11. Authors should send any available e-mail addresses to International Sociology with the manuscripts.
Please read through your final manuscript and check that no pages, notes or words are missing.
