Instructions to Authors
Note to Authors: please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.
Editorial Policy. The Journal of Information Technology is the refereed journal of the Association for Information Technology Trust, publishing articles and reviews covering current ideas, practice, news and research on the following main IT-related themes: definitions, the management of IT, strategy, human resource issues, systems design, development and methodologies, communications, national policies, technological developments and independent standards. The Editor is always pleased to receive for consideration articles on aspects of information technology likely to be of interest to readers.
Copyright. Authors submitting articles for publication warrant that the work is not an infringement of any existing copyright and will indemnify the Association for Information Technology Trust and the publisher against any breach of such warranty.
Article Preparation. All manuscripts and editorial communications should be sent to the Editor-in-Chief. Manuscripts should normally be between 5000-7000 words long, typewritten on one side of A4 paper only, double spaced with generous margins, and must be in English. Four copies are required. To permit anonymity of refereeing the author name(s) should not appear on the manuscript proper. Attach a cover page containing the title of the article, the name and affiliation of each author, and a 150 word abstract summarizing its content and argument. Also enclose brief biographical notes with an address for correspondence.
Article Submission. Authors should submit their paper to: Leslie Willcocks, Andersen Professor of Information Management and E-Business, Warwick Business School, University of Warwick, Coventry CV4 7AL, UK.
Presentation. The editors place great emphasis on a clear written style expressing a well-structured presentation of ideas. Main headings should be typed in capitals, subheadings in lower case, and both types of headings should be underlined. Footnotes should be avoided. When an author's name appears in the text, the date should follow in brackets, e.g. Jacob (1986), or where there is reference to a specific page or quotation Jacob (1986, P. 120). If the author's name is not present in the text then presentation should be (Jacob, 1986, p. 120).
References should be placed in alphabetical order at the end of the paper. The following conventions must be observed: e.g. for books:
Zuboff, S. (1988) In the Age of the Smart Machine, Heinemann, London.
e.g. for journal articles or chapters in edited books: Keen, P. (1980) Decision support systems: translating analytic techniques into useful tools. Sloan Management Review, 21 (3), 33-44.
Marti, J. and Zeilinger, A. (1985) New technology in banking and shopping. In Forester, T. (ed.), The Information Technology Revolution. Basil Blackwell, Oxford, pp. 350-8.
Diagrams, Tables, Figures. Each should be on a separate sheet and clearly labelled. Materials containing numbers should be referred to as TABLES; material containing diagrams or mostly words should be referred to as FIGURES. Each table or figure should be numbered, and have an explanatory legend typed at the bottom of the page. Indicate its preferred position in the text. All illustrations must be of high enough quality to permit immediate reproduction. Coloured lettering is not acceptable. Photocopies of line diagrams are unsuitable for reproduction unless they are of the highest standard. Photographs should be glossy prints, unmarked and uncreased, with good contrast. Contributions which are otherwise acceptable may be rejected on the grounds that illustrations are of unsatisfactory quality.
Refereeing Procedure. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least three expert referees as well as an editor. The refereeing process takes up to four months from date of receipt of the article to communication to the author. Where manuscript revision is required, authors are urged to double check that books and articles cited in 'References' actually appear in the text and vice versa. The revised MS will be reviewed by one of the original referees.
Submission of Word Processor Disks. Once an article has been accepted for inclusion in the Journal, please supply 2 hard copies, and a disk copy. Disks should be in DOS or Macintosh formats, preferably in Word or Word-perfect.
Early Electronic Offprints. Corresponding authors can now receive their article by e-mail as a complete PDF. This allows the author to print up to 50 copies, free of charge, and disseminate them to colleagues. In many cases this facility will be available up to two weeks prior to publication. Or, alternatively, corresponding authors will receive the traditional 50 offprints. A copy of the journal will be sent by post to all corresponding authors after publication. Additional copies of the journal can be purchased at the author’s preferential rate of $5.00/$25.00 per copy.
