About the journal

Instructions to Authors

Invitation to Contributors

Contributions for publication in Bradleya are invited in English on any aspect of succulent plant study involving original research, and not already published or accepted for publication elsewhere. Authors are reminded that copyright must be their own, and that, for example, maps must be redrawn to a high standard to avoid infringement.

They are asked to study the format and conventions of presentation in a recent issue of Bradleya and follow them as far as possible in order to minimise the amount of editing needed later. A summary is requested at the start of the article, including all taxonomic innovations, if any, listed alphabetically by name. A German translation of the summary will be provided if needed. Authors receive 20 free reprints cut from the printed sheets, and more can be supplied at cost if advance application is made. Late orders cannot be accepted.

Colour transparencies, drawings and maps are accepted at the owner's risk, bearing in mind the hazards of postal services, but care will be taken to ensure their safe return after use. As transparencies have to be removed from their mounts for scanning these should be submitted in easily openable/re-sealable mounts to avoid damage.

In common with other scientific journals, most of the articles submitted for Bradleya will be examined by at least one referee before final acceptance. The editorial team reserves the right to refuse papers without explanation, to make minor textual changes without reference to the author, and to place an article submitted for Bradleya in the B.C.S.S. quarterly Journal, or vice versa.

Authors will receive proofs and are asked to return them with corrections as soon as possible. While every effort will be made to get papers into print as swiftly as we can, no guarantee for a particular issue of Bradleya can be made, although preference is given to articles received early, requiring minimal rewriting, highly topical or including taxonomic or nomenclatural innovations.

Texts should be submitted as hard copy (typescript) along with all transparencies and artwork for line drawings etc. to:-

The text should also, if possible, be supplied on a computer disk for which the preferred format is Word or Word Perfect on an IBM PS/2 (DOS) formatted disc. If you use any other software please supply a copy in that format (stating the software and version used) but also include a copy saved as an ASCII text file. Any graphic files, for example for charts or graphs, should also be included in whatever format but please include a 'clean' hard copy in case access/conversion is not possible. If illustrations are required to be placed near to particular parts of the text, then this should be indicated on the hard copy. This positioning cannot be guaranteed, however, due to cost implications of colour picture placement.
