The Bulletin of Volcanology publishes papers on volcanoes, their products, their eruptive behavior, and their hazards. Papers aimed at understanding the deeper structure of volcanoes, and the evolution of magmatic systems using geochemical, petrological, and geophysical techniques are also published. The journal is organized in three main sections: Research articles, including occasional reviews; Short scientific communications; and a Forum providing for discussion of controversial issues and for comment and reply on previously published Research articles and Short scientific communications.

Authors of Research Articles and Review Papers should email a single PDF file to the Executive Editor (bullvolc@eps.mcgill.ca), who will determine if the manuscript is suitable for the Bulletin. The PDF file should (a) contain line numbers, (b) be double-spaced with 12 point font, and (c) be less than 5 megabytes in size. To ensure that the file does not exceed 5 megabytes, authors should use medium-resolution or low-resolution figures in the initial submission process. The Executive Editor will select a member of the Editorial Board to be the responsible editor. Authors may request a particular board member to be the responsible editor, although the Executive Editor makes the final choice. Authors of Short Scientific Communications and Forum Contributions should email a single PDF file, not exceeding 2 MB in size, to the Executive Editor (bullvolc@eps.mcgill.ca). Please be sure to include your e-mail address and your fax number when submitting. Papers that do not conform to the journal norms may be rejected or returned to the authors for revision before being considered for publication.
Instructions to Authors
Manuscript submission Manuscript Submission Permissions How to Submit Manuscript Submission Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities ¨C tacitly or explicitly ¨C at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.
Permissions Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.
How to Submit Manuscripts should preferably be submitted in the original file format. Please follow the hyperlink ¡°Submit online¡± on the right to open an e-mail to the editor and attach the files. If this is not possible, two printouts of the manuscript must be submitted to the editor.
Types of papers Review Papers are surveys of current and past work dealing with a particular aspect of volcanology. As the number of Review Articles published in the Bulletin is limited, authors are advised to contact the Executive Editor (bullvolc@eps.mcgill.ca) well in advance of submission to determine if the subject matter is appropriate. Research Articles should present original and significant scientific findings. They should be concise and informative, with a minimum number of illustrations and tables. Short Scientific Communications should present new important scientific results that are timely and lend themselves to speedy editorial handling. The same editorial standards will apply as for Research Articles. Forum Contributions provide for discussion of controversial issues and Comment and Reply on previously published papers. Research Articles should normally not exceed 14 printed pages. Longer articles are acceptable if they concern comprehensive reviews, or major studies with large datasets, and they are written in a concise manner. Short Scientific Communications and Forum Contributions should not exceed 4 and 2 printed pages respectively. (900 words are approximately equivalent to one printed page). All manuscripts are subject to copy editing.
