About the journal

Chemical Engineering and Processing is a journal intended for practising engineers in industry and academia.

The aim of the published articles is to demonstrate how novel discoveries, developments and theories may be used for improved analysis and design of chemical engineering equipment and processes. The Journal offers space for articles on any branch of chemical engineering and is particularly concerned with mechanical, thermal and chemical unit operations, but also includes analyses relating to environmental chemical engineering and sustainable industrial development. From time to time, review papers will be published for individual fields of activity to illustrate and summarise scientific and/or technological progress. Advanced knowledge on engineering fundamentals and processes is presented in such a form that it can be readily implemented into practical application.

Comments and Proposals: We are interested in receiving comments/feedback on this and our other journals and welcome publication proposals for books, electronic products, new journals and co-operation for existing journals. In all cases contact Sybrand Boer Iwema, Publishing Editor, at s.boeriwema@elsevier.com

or to one of the Associate Editors at the addresses listed in the journal. Contributions are accepted on the understanding that authors have obtained the necessary authority for publication. Submission of an article is understood to imply that the article is original and unpublished and is not being considered for publication elsewhere. Upon acceptance of an article by the journal, the author(s) will be asked to transfer the copyright of the article to the publisher. This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information.

Language
Papers will be published in English. Authors whose mother tongue is not English may have their paper accompanied by a Synopsis in their own language of two to three manuscript pages. The Synopsis shall refer to equations, Figures and Tables in the main text. It will appear following the Abstract and preceding the Introduction.

Authors in Japan may wish to note that, upon request, Elsevier Science Japan will provide authors with a list of people who can advise on the English of their paper (before submission). Please contact our Tokyo office: Elsevier Science Japan, 1-99-15, Higashi-Azabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo 106-0044, Japan. Tel: (03) 5561 5032; Fax: (03) 5561 5045.

Manuscript Preparation
Three copies of the manuscript should be submitted in double-spaced typing on pages of uniform size with a wide margin on the left. Some flexibility of presentation is allowed, but authors are urged to arrange the subject matter clearly under such headings as Introduction, Experimental, Results, Discussion, etc.

Correspondence address. The name, complete postal address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address of the corresponding author should be given on the first pages of the manuscript
Abstract. A brief summary (50-200 words) of the contents and conclusions of the paper and an indication of the relevance of new material should be included at the beginning of the paper.
References. These should be indicated by numerals in square brackets, introduced consecutively in the text and must be listed at the end of the paper in numerical order. Journal titles should be abbreviated according to the Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index, 1970 edition, and supplements. The abbreviated titles should be followed by the volume number, year (in parenthesis) and page numbers, as illustrated by these examples:
Articles not yet published should be given as 'in press', 'submitted for publication', 'in preparation' or 'personal communication'.
Abbreviations of journal titles should conform to an international standard as adopted by the Chemical Abstracts Service in the Bibliographic Guide for Editors and Authors, American Chemical Society, Washington, DC, 1974.
Equations. These should be numbered (1). (2) etc.
Nomenclature and Units: Nomenclature and abbreviations should conform to those most commonly used in the field concerned. All units should be SI. Where existing conventions or industrial practice indicate that other unit systems be used, the equivalent SI values must be given in parentheses. When these are omitted, manuscripts will be returned to authors to be rectified. All Greek letters and unusual technical symbols, when they first occur in the manuscript, should be explained in the margin.

A list of symbols must be supplied for each paper, including the meaning of any indices used. Where necessary, the definition of a physical quantity in terms of other quantities should also be given. In particular, this applies to dimensionless groups such as the Reynolds number for which the characteristic linear dimension temperature for the physical properties can be in doubt. When an adequate definition cannot be given in the Nomenclature, a reference to the text, where a definition can be found, should be given instead.

Illustrations
All illustrations should be provided in camera-ready form, suitable for reproduction, which may include reduction) without retouching. Photographs, charts and diagrams are all to be refereed to as Figure(s) and should be numbered consecutively in the order to which they are refereed. They should accompany the manuscript, but should not be included within the text. All illustrations should be clearly marked on the back with the figure number and the author's name. All figures are to have a caption. Captions should be supplied on a separate sheet.
Line drawings: Good quality printouts on white paper produced in black ink are required. All lettering, graph lines and points on graphs should be sufficiently large and bold to permit reproduction when the diagram has been reduced to a size suitable for inclusion in the journal. Dye-line prints or photocopies are not suitable for reproduction. Do not use any type of shading on computer-generated illustrations.
Photographs. Original photographs must be supplied, in triplicate, as they are to be reproduced (e.g. black and white or colour. If necessary, a scale should be marked on the photograph. Please note that photocopies of photographs are not acceptable.
Colour. Colour figures can be accepted at the discretion of the Editors. Authors will be expected to contribute towards the cost of colour printing.

Accepted articles on disk
The final and accepted text should be submitted on a 3.5 in diskette (in addition to a hard copy with original figures). Double density (DD) or high density (HD) diskettes formatted for MS-DOS or Apple Macintosh compatibility are acceptable, but must be formatted to their capacity before the files are copied on to them. The files should be saved in the native format of the word processing program used. Most popular wordprocessor file formats are acceptable. It is essential that the name and version of the word processing program, type of computer on which the text was prepared, and format OF the text files are clearly indicated.

Copyright Transfer
All authors must sign the 'Transfer of Copyright' agreement before the article can be published. This transfer agreement enables Elsevier Science Ltd to protect the copyrighted material for the authors, without the author relinquishing his/her proprietary rights. The copyright transfer covers the exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the article, including reprints, photographic reproductions, microfilm or any other reproductions of a similar nature, and translations. It also includes the right to adapt the article for use in conjunction with computer systems and programs, including reproduction or publication in machine-readable form and incorporation in retrieval systems. Authors are responsible for obtaining from the copyright holder permission to reproduce any material for which copyright already exists.

Proofs
Proofs will be sent to the authors (first named authors if no corresponding author is identified of multi-authored papers) and should be returned within 48 hours of receipt. Corrections should be restricted to typesetting errors; any other may be charged to the author. Any queries should be answered in full. Please note that authors are urged to check their proofs carefully before return, since the inclusion of late corrections cannot be guaranteed.

Offprints
Twenty-five offprints will be supplied free of charge. Additional offprints and copies of the issue can be ordered at a specially reduced rate using the order sent to the corresponding authors after the manuscript has been accepted. Orders for reprints (produced after production of an article) will incur a 50% surcharge.

Page charges
There are no page charges.
