About the journal

The Pakistan Veterinary Journal (PVJ) is a quarterly publication and is being published regularly since 1981 by the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. The journal has completed 29 years of its regular publication in year 2009. This is the only scientific peer reviewed journal in Veterinary Sciences in Pakistan. Original research papers, review, extension and clinical articles on the production and diseases of animals, including studies in comparative medicine, are published in this journal. Moreover, professional news and information of interest to the veterinarians and allied professionals working in veterinary hospitals, livestock and poultry farms, research and teaching institutions, animal feed and pharmaceutical industry are also included in PVJ. The journal is also read, abstracted and indexed internationally.


Instructions to Authors
The Pakistan Veterinary Journal (PVJ), a peer reviewed journal, has been published quarterly by the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan, since 1981. It publishes original research and review articles on the health and diseases of animals, including studies in comparative medicine. Manuscripts are accepted for publication on the understanding that they have not been published and are not being considered for publication elsewhere. The Editor will assume that all named authors agree with the contents and form of the paper. The PVJ will reject any paper where there is enough reason to believe that animals have been subjected to unnecessary or avoidable pain or distress. The copyright of papers accepted for publication belongs to PVJ. All contributions are subject to editorial revision and Editor's decision will be final.

Manuscripts
Two copies of the manuscript be submitted to the Secretary, Pakistan Veterinary Journal, Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad-38040, Pakistan. They should be typewritten (double space) with Times New Roman font size 12 on one side of the A4 (8.5�x 11� size paper with 1�margin on right, top and bottom and 1.5�margin on the left side. Papers should be written in the English language. The spellings accepted are that of Oxford English Dictionary. All pages should be numbered in the upper right corner. Title page of the manuscript should carry full title, the initials and surname(s) of the author(s), the name and address of the institution(s) where the work was carried out and addresses of co-author(s) if different from the previous.

The category of the article i.e. original full length article, review article, short communication, clinical article or case report should be clearly indicated on top left corner of the title page. Each author should be identified using a superscript and the corresponding author designated by an asterisk, as follows:

Second page should start with full title and other information of manuscript, as described below, but not authors name(s) and address(s):

(a) Abstract (not more than 250 words), self-contained and embodying the main conclusions. It should note the relevance to veterinary science as well as the aims and objectives of the work. Sentences such as “the results are discussed� which merely describe the paper, are not allowed.

(b) Key words (indexing terms), normally 4-6 words.

(c) Introduction.

(d) Materials and Methods.

(e) Results, as concise as possible. Both tables and figures illustrating the same data will not be permitted.

(f) Discussion and conclusion.

(g) Acknowledgments

(h) References.

Short Communications
Short Communications should not exceed two published pages (about 1500 words). Titles like “Introduction�“Materials and Methods�and “Results and Discussion�may be included. Illustrations and Tables may be included when absolutely necessary and as few as possible. The number of references quoted should not exceed 10.

Clinical Articles or Case Reports
These should include the following sections: Introduction, (explaining why the case is being reported, with references where necessary to previous reports), history, clinical examination and postmortem findings of the case if applicable, the diagnosis and differential diagnosis, treatment adopted, discussion and references.

Abbreviations and Symbols
Each scientific abbreviation must be given fully at its first occurrence in the paper, for example, complement fixations test (CFT). The policy of the journal with respect to units and symbols is that SI (Systems Internationals) symbols be used.

References
Only papers closely related to the author’s work should be included: exhaustive lists should be avoided. References should be cited in the text as: Sattar (2005) or (Sattar, 2005), Nadeem and Sufyan (2005) or (Nadeem and Sufyan, 2005), Khan et al. (2005) or (Khan et al., 2005). The list of references at the end of paper should be given in alphabetical order and should appear in the following form:

References to books and monographs should include: 1) authors(s) or editor(s); 2) year of publication, 3) title, 4) edition, 5) Publisher and place of publication, 6) beginning and final page numbers, as shown below:

Illustrations
All illustrations (like drawings and photographs) should be on separate sheets. Each should bear the author’s name and figure number in pencil on the back.

Photographs should be unmounted, glossy prints suitable for reproduction and should not be folded. Colour illustrations are accepted only when authors are ready to bear full cost of printing. Diagrams should be presented in black ink on white paper, in a form suitable for reproduction. Captions and titles should be typed separately from the illustrations and numbered. Where there is any possible doubt about the orientation of an illustration, the top should be marked with an arrow.

Tables
These should be as few as possible and should contain only essential data. They should be typewritten on separate sheets and numbered according to their sequence in the text. The text should include references to all tables. Each table should have a brief and self explanatory title.
