About the journal

This journal publishes both applications and theory-oriented articles on new developments in the fields of pattern recognition and artificial intelligence, and is of interest to both researchers in industry and academia. From the beginning, there has always been a close relationship between the disciplines of pattern recognition and artificial intelligence. The recognition and understanding of sensory data like speech or images, which are major concerns in pattern recognition, have always been considered as important subfields of artificial intelligence. On the other hand, topics like knowledge representation, inference, search or learning that belong to the center of artificial intelligence, have constantly attracted the attention of researchers working in pattern recognition. IJPRAI is the first to cover both fields in one periodical, and particular emphasis is put on papers which are in the intersection of both fields. However, it is open to articles from "pure" pattern recognition and "pure" artificial intelligence as well.

  • Contains current material on applications and theory research in:
    • Image Processing
    • Natural Language Processing
    • Computer Vision
    • Speech Understanding
    • Pattern Recognition
    • Robotics and Related Fields
    • Expert Systems
    • Artificial Intelligence
    • Knowledge Engineering
    • Neural Networks
  • Has special issues devoted to relevant and key areas in the field
  • Is a worthwhile investment for researchers/libraries concerned with research in industry or academia

  • Instructions to Authors

Manuscripts can be submitted in PDF or Postscript format to the Publisher online. For manuscripts to be submitted as hard copy only, five copies of a paper should be submitted to either of the two editors-in-charge. Authors are requested to put on the manuscript the mailing address to which proofs and reprint order form should be sent.

For manuscripts to be submitted as hard copy only, five copies of a paper should be submitted to either of the two editors-in-charge. Authors are requested to put on the manuscript the mailing address to which proofs and reprint order form should be sent.

All contributions should be written in English with a brief abstract. They will be reviewed by at least two independent experts. You may also wish to recommend two referees and provide their complete contact addresses with e-mail.

Upon acceptance of an article, the author(s) will be asked to transfer copyright of the article to the publisher. This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information. A biographical sketch and photograph of each author are also to be supplied to the Publisher.

No page charge is levied. Each contributor will receive 50 free reprints. Additional reprints can be ordered. Costs arising from extensive alterations in page proofs other than printer's errors will be charged to authors. The manuscript should be prepared for publication in accordance with the following guidelines:

    • The manuscript must be typed on one side of the paper in double spacing with wide margins. All pages should be numbered consecutively. References, tables and figure legends should be typed on separate pages. Please limit your complete manuscript using double spacing to 30pp.
    • The first page of the manuscript should contain the title of the paper, the name(s) and institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s). An abbreviated title (for running heads) should also be listed.
    • Immediately following the abstract, a list of 5-10 keywords are to be supplied. These terms should be relatively independent (coordinate index terms), and as a group should optimally characterize the paper.
    • Footnotes, other than those referring to acknowledgements and information on grants, should be numbered alphabetically and placed at the end of a manuscript page (not to be listed separately).
    • List separately all mathematical symbols which are not typewritten.
    • To have good photographic reproduction, all drawings for figures and diagrams should be submitted on separate sheets, drawn large size in Indian ink, with neat annotations. Except for a reduction in size, they will appear in exactly the same form in the final printed version.
    • Number all references alphabetically according to the following samples:

      1. T. Pavlidis, Structural Pattern Recognition, Springer, Berlin, 1977.
      2. D. N. Perkins, "Why the human perceiver is a bad machine", in Human and Machine Vision, eds. J. Beck et al., Academic Press, New York, 1983, pp. 341-364.

Any manuscript which does not conform to the above instructions may be returned to authors for revision before publication.

Detailed instructions for preparation of manuscripts are available in: Latex2e (readme / Download)
