About the journal The Singapore Economic Review is a quarterly journal devoted to the publication of high-quality theoretical and empirical papers on all aspects of economics with a special emphasis on the economic problems related to Asian countries. The journal has a long history of publication of a broad range of economic issues impinging on Southeast Asia and the broader Asia-Pacific region. It was initially published as the Malayan Economic Review (MER) from 1956, which was later renamed the Singapore Economic Review (SER) in 1969. Among its distinguished contributors were the late Sir John Hicks, Sydney Caine, the late H.G. Johnson, Ragnar Nurkse, H.W. Singer, W.M. Corden, Herbert Grubel, J.C.H. Fei, G. Ranis, Henry Wan, E.J. Mishan, Jerome L. Stein, Jack L. Knetsch, Ng Yew-Kwang, Murray Kemp, Karl Shell and Ronald I. McKinnon. The journal has a wide international circulation; among the many subscribers are the libraries of Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford and the London School of Economics.
The SER's editorial board consists of prominent scholars with different areas of specializations from across the world. With World Scientific as the journal's publisher, the Singapore Economic Review has sections devoted to public policy, applied economics, markets and industry, commentaries, and short papers or notes. The SER also publishes selected book reviews. In addition, specially invited papers by very eminent economists are featured in forthcoming issues.

The SER is a peer-reviewed journal. Submission of a paper to the journal is held to imply that it contains original unpublished work which is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Upon acceptance of an article, author(s) will be asked to transfer copyright of the article to the publisher and to submit the article online as either an MS Word or LaTeX file. Publication in the SER will ensure the widest possible dissemination of research papers.
All manuscripts submitted for consideration for publication will be promptly reviewed and processed. For more information, see the SER webpage at http://www.worldscinet.com/ser/ser.shtml.
- Submission: The preferred manuscript submission would be online via http://ejournals.worldscientific.com.sg/ser/editorial/submitpaper.shtml. Alternatively, two copies of the manuscript could be sent to Professor Euston Quah, Editor, Singapore Economic Review, c/o Division of Economics, Nanyang Technological University, HSS-04-34, 14 Nanyang Drive, Singapore 637332. Submission of a paper to the Singapore Economic Review is held to imply that it contains original unpublished work which is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
- Manuscript: Manuscripts must be typed with double spacing on one side of A4 size paper. The length of the entire manuscript should not exceed 40 pages. The first page of the manuscript should contain the following information: (i) the title; (ii) the name(s) and institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s); (iii) an abstract of not more than 100 words. A footnote on the same sheet should give the name, address, telephone and fax numbers of the corresponding author [as well as an e-mail address]. Footnotes should be numbered consecutively in the text. The first page of the manuscript should also contain at least one classification code according to the Classification System for Journal Articles as used by the Journal of Economic Literature; in addition, up to five key words should be supplied.
- Sections: Section headings should be numbered in Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.) while sub-section headings should follow the double numeration system (1.1, 1.2, etc.). All headings are to be left-aligned and in bold.
- Illustrations: Figures and tables should be numbered in Arabic numerals, accompanied by titles, and supplied on separate sheets at the end of the manuscript. Figures must be of professional quality and be ready for reproduction.
- References: In the text, references to publications should follow this convention: "Smith (1998) reported that" or "This problem was noted in previous studies (Taylor, 1995; Jones, 1992)". A list of references is to be provided at the end of the text, in accordance with the following format:
Cameron, A.C. and P.K. Trivedi (1991). The Role of Income and Health Risk in the Choice of Health Insurance: Evidence from Australia. Journal of Public Economics, 45, pp. 1-28.
Brunner, K. and A.H. Meltzer (1990). Money Supply. In Friedman, B.M. and F.H. Hahn (eds.), Handbook of Monetary Economics, Vol. 1. North-Holland, Amsterdam.
The author should ensure that there is a strict one-to-one correspondence between the names and years in the text and those on the list.
- Mathematical notations: All equations should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. Whenever possible, fractions should be expressed as x/y or x/(y+z) instead of
