About the journal
The aim of this international journal is to provide a forum for original and significantcontributions in the field of distributed computing.Published papers will range from reports on systems that are currently being designed, implemented, and used to theoretical papers concerning formal specification, verification, and synthesis of distributed systems. In all cases, acceptance of papers will be based on originality and contribution.Topics covered by the journal include (but are not limited to):
-- Novel architectures of distributed systems (e.g. for distributed databases, office
automation, and distributed real time control)
-- Architectures of computer networks
-- Communication protocols, protocol hierarchies, and standards
-- Distributed operating systems
-- Distributed algorithms (resource allocation, fault tolerance ...)
-- Algorithms for VLSI arrays -- Formal modeling, verification, and synthesis of distributed systems
Instructions to Authors
1. Manuscripts may be submitted electronically or in hardcopy.Submission using e-mail is preferred and will lead to faster manuscript processing. The e-mail should be sent to: distcomp@cs.toronto.edu If the file in the message is compressed, then instructions for restoring it should be included inthe message. We can handle most Postscript, dvi, and LATEX files.Submissions of hardcopy text by postal mail should be single-sided and in quadruplicate. Thesubmission should be sent to: Professor Vassos Hadzilacos Department of Computer Science University of Toronto 6, King’s College Road Toronto, Ontario Canada M5S 3H5 All submissions should be double-spaced.Submissions should be accompanied by a brief biography of each author. Papers must be written in English. Authors who are not native speakers of English are urged to have their manuscripts checked by a native speaker.Submission must be accompanied by the "Copyright Transfer Statement" (the form is regularly published in this issue). SI units should be used exclusively both in the manuscript (including tables) and in the illustrations. 2. The title page (page number one) should comprise: the title, the complete name(s) of the author(s), the name and address of the laboratory or institution, any footnotes referring to the title; the address to which proofs should be sent; e-mail or Fax number to facilitate communication among the authors, editors and publisher. 3. Abstract. Each paper must be preceded by a brief abstract, stating results in such a way that it is possible for the reader to assess their significance. This abstract should be concise and not longer than 250 words. 4. Key words. Immediately following the abstract, no more than five key words are to be supplied for subject indexing. They should not simply be taken from the title of the article, but should be representative of the content of the whole article and characteristic of the terminology used within the particular field of study. 5. Footnotes to the title of the paper should be indicated by asterisks, those to the text numbered consecutively. All footnotes should be placed at the foot of the manuscript page on which they belong. 6. References should be listed at the end of the paper. The references should be numbered and in alphabetical order by the first author’s last name.Internationally accepted abbreviations of journal titles may be used. Here are some examples: 1. Abadi M, Lamport L: Composing specifications. In: de Bakker JW, de Roever WP, Rozenberg G (eds) Stepwise refinement of distributed systems: models, formalisms, correctness. Lect Notes Comput Sci, vol 430. Springer, Berlin Heidelberg New York 1990, pp 1--41 2. Dijkstra EW, Scholten CS: Predicate calculus and program semantics. Springer, New York Berlin Heidelberg 1990 3. Halpern JY, Fagin R: Modelling knowledge and action in distributed systems. Distrib Comput 3:159--177 (1990) Citations in the text should be by number and enclosed in square brackets. 7. Illustrations should be restricted to theminimum needed to clarify the text. Previously published illustrations are not usually accepted. All figures must be mentioned in the text; they should be numbered consecutively. 8. Letters in formulae are typeset in italics;figures are typeset upright. 9. Fifty offprints of each paper are supplied free of charge. Additional offprints may be ordered at cost price when the page proofs are returned.Authors who prepare their papers with TEX are encouraged to ask for Springer-Verlag’s TEX macro packages, either by e-mail to hangel@springer.de or via the URL: http://www.springer.de/author /tex/help-journals.html or directly via ftp to ftp.springer.de with user id ftp or anonymous. Please enter your e-mail address as password. The files reside in /pub/tex/latex/svjour/dc Authors who wish to submit disks to the editor should do so only after the manuscript has been accepted for publication. They must then include all macro definitions and style files they have used together with a printout for reference. It is important to ensure that the text is identical in the hard copy and in the soft copy. The production time for papers submitted in this form can be reduced considerably. Authors who have written their papers in TEX but have not, for whatever reasons, used Springer-Verlag’s macros should likewise send in a disk and corresponding hard copy. Springer-Verlag will then decide on a case-by-case basis whether it makes sense economically to work from the TEX files.
