About the journal
The Institute of Scientific Information Journal Citations Report for 2005 ranks Leisure Sciences 14th out of 51 journals in Environmental Studies (social science) and 21st out of 94 journals in Sociology (social science), with an Impact Factor of 1.045.
Leisure Sciences presents scientific inquiries into the study of leisure, recreation, parks, travel, and tourism from a social science perspective. Articles cover the social and psychological aspects of leisure, planning for leisure environments, leisure gerontology, travel and tourism behavior, leisure economics, and urban leisure delivery systems. Also published are methodological notes and philosophical and policy treatises, calendars of research meetings and conferences, announcements, and book reviews. The interdisciplinary diversity of topics makes this international forum for leisure research of special interest to academicians, consultants, students, bureaucrats, and practitioners involved in research, teaching, planning, management, administration, and promotion.
Instructions to Authors

Submission of Manuscripts
Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts through email to karla_henderson@ncsu.edu. If the manuscript is submitted by standard mail, please include one copy of the paper and a CD copy. A mailed manuscript should be sent to Karla A. Henderson, Co-Editor, Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, College of Forest Resources, Box 8004, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC 27695-8004. If a disk is used, the disk should be prepared using MS Word and should be clearly labeled with the authors?names, file name, and software program. A hardcopy printout that exactly matches the disk must be supplied. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more that 100 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text. Papers should not exceed 9,000 words.
Affiliation
On the title page, include full names of authors, academic and/or other professional affiliations, and the complete mailing address of the author to whom proofs and correspondence should be sent. Please include phone, fax, and e-mail address. Do not submit position titles.
References and Citations
Format for references and citations should conform to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed., 2001). This manual may be ordered from the Publication De-partment, American Psychological Association, 750 First Street, NE, Washington, D.C. 20002-4242, USA, phone (202) 336-5500, fax (202)336-5502 or www.apastyle.org. Use this reference also for other mat-ters of editorial style.

Illustrations
Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
- 300 dpi or higher
- sized to fit on journal page
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
- submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures/illustrations should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. APA guidelines for tables and figures should be followed. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author’s name, and top edge indicated.
Page Proofs
All proofs must be corrected and returned to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt. If the manuscript is not returned within the allotted time, the editor will proofread the article and it will be printed per the editor’s instruction.
Offprints
The corresponding author of the article will receive 1 complete copy of the issue in which the article appears for each author, up to a total of 3 copies per article. The corresponding author is responsible for distribution of copies to co-authors. Offprints of an individual article may be ordered from Taylor & Francis. Please use the offprint order form included with page proofs.
