About the journal

The International Journal of Mathematics publishes original papers in mathematics in general, but giving a preference to those in the areas of mathematics represented by the editorial board. The journal has been published monthly except in January and April to bring out new results without delay. Occasionally, expository papers of exceptional value may also be published. The first issue appeared in March 1990.

What's New

The American Mathematical Society will soon carry out an important new initiative : The inclusion in the MRDB (Mathematical Reviews Database) and MathSciNet of reference lists. In the first phase of the project, reference lists will be captured from a limited number of journals only. As a reputable international mathematical journal, IJM has been selected for this treatment in the first phase.

From 2002, the number of issues per year will be increased from 9 to 10.
Instructions to Authors
Manuscripts may be submitted, in duplicate, to any of the Editors, whose names and addresses are on the inside front and back covers. Only papers submitted in English will be considered for publication. The submission of a paper implies that the paper is not being considered for publication by other journals. Once a paper is accepted for publication in International Journal of Mathematics, the author is assumed to have transferred the copyright to World Scientific.

Papers must be submitted with full address(es) and telex or telefax numbers and e-mail address(es) of the author(s).

The manuscript, including the abstract, references, tables, figures and figure captions, must be clearly typed on good letter-size paper, with double-spacing and ample margins all around the text. Only one side of the paper should be used.

Abstracts should not be more than 300 words long.

Each article submitted must be accompanied by Mathematics Subject Classification 2000. A list of these numbers may be found in the annual Subject Index of Mathematical Reviews, published in the December issue.

Sections should be numbered with arabic numerals. Each page of the manuscript should be numbered.

Notation should be legible, compact, and conform to current practice. Each symbol must be clear - either neatly typed or written in ink - and properly aligned so that superscripts and subscripts are easily distinguishable. Numerical fractions are preferable put on one line e.g. 1/2 a.

Footnotes should be indicated in the text with superscript letters: a, b, c, etc.

Indicators such as Proposition, Theorem, Proof, Lemma are in boldface, and the statements of theorems, lemmas and corollaries in italics.

References are numbered consecutively in arabic numerals in alphabetical order of the author's name and are designed by number in square brackets in the text. For journal references, the standard abbreviations for journal names should be used. They should be listed in a separate sheet at the end of the text material. The general format preferred is indicated below:

  1. Z. Sela, Acylindrical assessibility for groups, Invent. Math. 129(3) (1997), 527-565.
  2. C. J. Earle, Teichmuller theory, in Discrete Groups and Automorphic Functions, ed. W. J. Harvey, Academic Press, 1977, pp. 1-100.
  3. S. L. Ma, Polynomial Addition Sets, Ph. D. Thesis, University of Hongkong, 1985.
  4. A. Wilansky, Summability Through Functional Analysis, North-Holland, 1984.

Figures should be numbered in arabic numerals in the order of appearance in the text. Each figure should occupy a separate page. Original indian-ink drawings, glossy prints or laserprinted graphics are preferred. For ease of handling, original figures should not be larger than a manuscript page. They must be clear enough for reduction to a minimum of 50% of their original size. (Please note that the size of printed figures cannot exceed 5x7.5 in.) The author's name and figure number should be clearly written below the figure. The list of figure captions should be typed on a separate sheet at the end of the manuscript.

Tables should be numbered with roman numerals in the order of appearance. Each table should occupy a separate page. Every table must have a caption, which should be typed above the table.

Every submitted paper will be acknowledged and refereed.

There is no page charge. The author will receive 100 reprints of his paper free of charge. When there are two or more joint authors, each author will receive 50 reprints.

To eliminate unnecessary delay or difficulties in printing, authors may be guided by the article `Manual for authors of mathematical papers', Bull. Amer. Math. Soc. 68 (1962) 429-444.
