Instructions to Authors

Objectives

Polímeros: Ciência e Tecnologia is quarterly publication of the Brazilian Polymer Association (Associação Brasileira de Polímeros - ABPol), with 4 issues per year, and publishis articles and advances on science, technology and marketing in the polymer area.

Types of contributions

The journal contains a technical section dedicated to different types of contributions as follows:

Technical-scientific papers: These should contain original work, not previously published in journals or conference proceedings, with results that further the knowledge of one or more of the various aspects of polymers.

Industrial Practices: Such papers should deal with current industrial procedures, where new procedures or developments are addressed, which may lead to improving the quality of raw materials, processes and manufactured products

Standards and Methods: These should describe standardized methods, based upon the experience of the authors or their institution/industry, and that may contribute to enhance the quality control of raw materials, processes and manufactured products.

Market aspects: In this category are included updated marketing surveys with either regional/national or international coverage, based upon renowned information sources. When data originating from an individual research effort are included, the methodology employed to obtain the data should be described.

Reviews: These papers should offer a broad overview of the state-of-the-art in a topic related to polymers. It is expected that the authors of such reviews should be recognized professionals that have effectively contributed to the field or topic under analysis. Papers that are mere bibliographical surveys, without clear contribution from the authors to the field, are not acceptable.

Communications: These distinguish from full papers for being a concise report of recent developments, where the major results and/or contributions should be stated directly. Owing to their nature, Communications are submitted to a faster evaluation process.

Content

Manuscripts may be written in Portuguese, Spanish or English, and should be prepared in a concise way, yet privileging clarity. They must necessarily contain: Title, Abstract (100 to 200 words), keywords, Introduction, Experimental Part or Materials and Methods, where applicable, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments (where applicable), and references. In a separate page, the manuscripts must contain the Title, Abstract and Keywords in English.

?Title, Abstract (100 to 200 words), keywords, Introduction, Experimental Part or Materials and Methods, where applicable, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments (where applicable), and references. In a separate page, the manuscripts must contain the Title, Abstract and Keywords in English.

?Tables, figures, graphs and photos ?these should come in separate sheets and be prepared considering that the figures will be printed on a magazine’s column (8 cm wide) or exceptionally on two columns (16.7 cm wide). In case the figures were produced using commercially available software, the original files should be sent on a disk with a label stating the filename and the software employed for producing the figures. Authors are required to suggest the location in the text where the figures should be inserted, including their captions. Because contrast is essential, tables, graphs and figures should be printed with black ink on high-quality, smooth, opaque white paper, bearing in mind that the final illustrations will be reproduced from these originals. The photos must be in black and white, with good contrast and printed on glossy paper. In micrographs, dimensions should be indicated by side bars. All illustrations should be clearly labeled (e.g. at the bottom of the sheet or on its reverse side), with the figure number.

Extention of the contributions

All papers submitted as papers, regardless of their nature, should not exceed 20 manuscript pages, including figures, tables and photos. The review papers, although aimed at a more comprehensive coverage, should not exceed 30 manuscript pages, while communications should not exceed 7 manuscript pages.

Observation: one manuscript page is taken as an A4 page, with 25 written lines in double space, and using the Times New Roman 12 font. Each figure, table or photo corresponds to one manuscript page.

References

The references in the text should appear within square brackets, numbered according to their order of appearance in the text. A full list of the references must be given at the end of the manuscript. References should be given in the following form:

Submission and review procedures

All contributions are submitted to the Editorial Board that will select reviewers to evaluate them. Authors are advised to follow the instructions strictly; otherwise the manuscript may be sent back to them without proceeding to the review process. Acceptance of manuscripts depends on their technical quality attested by the reviewers?reports. Manuscripts should be sent in quadruplicate (originals + 3 copies), including illustrations, to the Secretary of ABPOL, at the address below. All materials should be also sent in electronic form, in a labeled disk. Text should be in Word for Windows.
