Instructions to Authors

In general, papers in any of the following three categories will be considered for publication in the Journal of the Philosophy of Sport:

1. Articles that include a sustained philosophic argument leading to (a) new conclusions, new information, and/or (b) an appreciation of new evidence for previously held conclusions. Typically (though not necessarily) "articles" should be full-length essays, 15-30 double-spaced pages in length.

2. Essays that include a brief philosophic argument, clarification, reaction, or extension. Typically (though not necessarily) "discussions" are short essays, 10-20 double-spaced pages in length.

3. Critical reviews of current and classic works and literature within the general areas of the philosophical or sociocultural analysis of sport.

Please direct all editorial correspondence and/or submissions to: Nicholas Dixon, Department of Philosophy, Alma College, 614 W. Superior, Alma, MI 48801.

Submit manuscripts electronically via the Human Kinetics Journal Online Review System (JORS). JORS manages the electronic transfer of manuscripts throughout the article review process, using step-by-step instructions and a user-friendly design.

If manuscripts are not electronically submitted, Four non-returnable copies of each manuscript must be submitted to the editor to initiate the review process.

The review process is "blind"; therefore, the author's name and institutional affiliation should appear only on the cover page and care should be taken so that the author's identity is not revealed, or referred to, in the text or the notes.

Manuscripts should conform to the reference, footnote, and bibliographical style utilized in current volumes of the Journal. Manuscripts employing alternative formats will be accepted for review; however, acceptance for publication will depend upon appropriate stylistic revisions by the author(s) before publication.

Two copies of the final copy of all accepted papers, as well as a copy of the word processor disk from which they were derived, are required before publication.
