Instructions to Authors
Manuscript Submission
Manuscripts, in triplicate, should be submitted to the Editor: Pascal James Imperato, M.D. Journal of Community Health Graduate Program in Public Health State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn 450 Clarkson Avenue Brooklyn, New York 11203
Publication Policies
Submission is a representation that the manuscript has not been published previously and is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. A statement transferring copyright from the authors (or their employers, if they hold the copyright) to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC will be required before the manuscript can be accepted for publication. The Editor will supply the necessary forms for this transfer. Such a written transfer of copyright, which previously was assumed to be implicit in the act of submitting a manuscript, is necessary under the U.S. Copyright Law in order for the publisher to carry through the dissemination of research results and reviews as widely and effectively as possible. Authors must obtain the written permission from the copyright owner (usually the author and publisher) for the use of tables, illustrations, or extensively quoted material which has previously appeared in another publication.
Manuscript Style
Type double−spaced on 8 1/2 ×11 inch paper, and submit the original and two copies (including, where possible, copies of all illustrations and tables). A manuscript should not exceed 5000 words (20 textual pages) in length. Editorial review of manuscripts requires approximately six weeks. Most manuscripts are sent to outside referees. Page proofs are sent to the corresponding author for approval prior to publication. If a manuscript is not accepted for publication, the original and one copy will be returned. Title Page A title page is to be provided and should include
 Footnotes

|
A footnote should contain information about research support and acknowledgment. The names of the authors should not appear on the rest of the paper; instead, a running head of no more than four words should appear on the top of each manuscript page. (Except for this introductory footnote, no other footnotes should be included.) | Abstract

|
An abstract is to be provided, preferably no longer than 250 words. A summary is then not necessary. | Key Words

|
A list of 4−5 key words is to be provided directly below the abstract. Key words should express the precise content of the manuscript, as they are used for indexing purposes. | References References should be limited to the most relevant. Authors are responsible for the accurate citation of references. Authors should not cite references they have not read. Abstracts should not be used as references. References are to be cited consecutively in the text as superscripts. At the end of the manuscript, references should be listed, on a separate page and double−spaced throughout, in the numerical order in which they are first cited in the text. The style should conform to Index Medicus, including total number of pages, but omitting day or month of issue. Where there are six or fewer authors, all should be listed, where there are seven or more, the first three should be listed, followed by et al. Punctuation is shown in the following examples:

Illustration Style

|
Illustrations (photographs, drawings, diagrams, and charts) are to be numbered in one consecutive series of Arabic numerals. The captions for illustrations should be typed on a separate sheet of paper. Photographs should be large, glossy prints, showing high contrast. Drawings should be high−quality laser prints or should be prepared with india ink. Either the original drawings or good−quality photographic prints are acceptable. Symbols, abbreviations, and spelling in captions should be consistent with the text. Each figure should be lightly marked on the back in pencil with an arrow indicating the top. The following information should be typed on a gummed label first, and then affixed to the back of each figure: number, title of manuscript, name of author(s). Each set of illustrations should be submitted unmounted in a separate envelope. Electronic artwork submitted on disk should be in TIFF or EPS format (1200 dpi for line and 300 dpi for half−tone and gray−scale art). Color art should be in the CYMK color space. Artwork should be on a separate disk from the text, and hard copy must accompany the disk. |

|
Tables should be self−explanatory and should supplement (not duplicate) the text. Each table should be typed, double−spaced, on a separate sheet of paper; they should be numbered consecutively and cited in the text. Each table must have a title. |
Submission of Accepted Manuscripts
After a manuscript has been accepted for publication and after all revisions have been incorporated, manuscripts should be submitted to the Editor's Office as hard copy accompanied by electronic files on disk. Label the disk with identifying information ,software, journal name, and first author's last name. The disk must be the one from which the accompanying manuscript (finalized version) was printed out. The Editor's Office cannot accept a disk without its accompanying, matching hard−copy manuscript.

A Springer Open Choice article receives all the benefits of a regular subscription−based article, but in addition is made available publicly through Springers online platform SpringerLink. To publish via Springer Open Choice, upon acceptance please visit the link below to complete the relevant order form and provide the required payment information. Payment must be received in full before publication or articles will publish as regular subscription−model articles. We regret that Springer Open Choice cannot be ordered for published articles.
