TRABAJOS DE PREHISTORIA NORMS FOR THE PRESENTATION OF ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPTS

Trabajos de Prehistoria is a peer review journal that publishes, mainly, works on the Prehistory and Protohistory of the Iberian Peninsula and its relations with Europe and the Mediterranean. The journal is interested in subjects related to archaeological theory and methodology, archaeometry and palaeoenviroments, containing different sections of Articles, Reports, Book Review and Scientific Chronicle, Abstracts and Received Books. Since volume 51 (1994) Trabajos de Prehistoria is published twice a year (June and December).

Only original works are admitted, -neither published or not to be published- in Spanish, English or French, with the following characteristics:

Articles (Artículos): Should have a maximum of 100.000 characters (40 pages), including notes, captions, tables and illustrations.

Reports (Noticiario): Will publish preliminary works of research projects, excavations, surveys and new and significant discoveries. Its maximum length should be of 45.000 characters (20 pages). In both cases, authors are to decide the proportion of text and illustrations. One full-page illustration equals to 5.100 characters.

Book Review and Scientific Chronicle: Should have a critical content, not merely descriptive. The maximum length should be around 10.000 characters (4 pages).

Trabajos de Prehistoria uses an external and anonymous evaluation system for the submitted originals, from which the resolution will not delay more than four months. The publication of an original would not mean in any case financial return.

The objective of the norms which are to be specified is to obtain a broader international diffusion of the journal. The international data bases require the fulfilment of a number of formalities related to: text and illustrations presentation, date of acceptance, author identifications, length, title, abstract and key words in English or French, as well as precision in bibliography and quotations.

No correspondence will be entered into concerning unsolicited manuscripts.

Submission of the original manuscript

Works should be sent to the Director of the periodical: (Trabajos de Prehistoria, Dpto. de Prehistoria, Instituto de Historia, CSIC. C/ Albasanz 26-28. 28037, Madrid. España. E-mail: tp@ih.csic.es).

Two printed copies (without corrections) should be sent together with the CD with exactly the same content, in PC format and indicating the program used. In a separate sheet, for an easy contact, the complete address of the author/s, telephone and e-mail should be stated.

For the acceptance of the articles it is necessary a written declaration of originality signed by all of the authors, indicating it has not been published or going to be published in any other journal.

Data from research projects must also include the agreement of the Main Researcher.

The text will follow the next norms: double spaced: between (30-35) thirty to thirty five lines per page, that all of them should be numbered, with margins of (4) four cm. Notes must be numbered at the end of the text, in the order in which they are mentioned in the text, to facilitate composition. The first page must present the title, the abstract and the key words in Spanish and in English/French; the complete name of the author/s with asterisks referring to the full address of the Institution of ascription (one per author), or the particular address, as well as the e-mail address. Acknowledgements should be located at the end of the text.

It is important that the abstract includes objectives, methodology, results and conclusions of the work presented, with a length of between 50-150 words. Key words should enable the identification of the article by computer-based search by topic, methodology, geographic location and chronology.

Book reviews must include the complete bibliographic information of the work reviewed; the full name and address of the author should be indicated at the end of the text.

For any location within the Iberian Peninsula the standard map to be provided by the journal should be used.

Plates should have the highest possible quality and should be submitted, preferably, in digital format. Non of the illustrations should be integrated in the text, and should be designed to fit within a space of a whole page (162 x 210 mm.), half page, or 1/3 or 2/3, or in columns, as shown in the model included in the journal.Their captions should be submitted separately, together with the text, with the complete data of their identification and their placement indicated in the text.
