The Journal of International Business Studies¡¯ broad scope and developmental editorial policies create accessible, thought-provoking content for the general academic business community. 2006 JIBS DECADE AWARD WINNER IS ANNOUNCED IN BEIJING JUNE 26th This year's winners are Jane Salk, University of Texas at Dallas and Marjorie A. Lyles, Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
Instructions to Authors
Submission of manuscripts JIBS only accepts online submissions. Authors are requested to submit their papers online at www.outdare.com/jibs in MS Word (IBM-PC format) for Windows file. This file will be converted to a .pdf file when sent out for review.
If you have any additional questions, please contact the Managing Editor, Danielle Trojan, at dtrojan@mail.duke.edu
Manuscripts are reviewed with the understanding that they:
are substantially new; have not been previously published in whole (including book chapters) or in part (including exhibits); have not been previously accepted for publication; are not under consideration by any other publisher; will not be submitted elsewhere until a decision is reached regarding their publication in JIBS. The only exception is papers in conference proceedings, as long as they represent work in progress toward the manuscript submitted to JIBS; in that case, the Editor-in-Chief will eventually need to know where the paper was presented. JIBS will have the copyright to all published articles.
Choosing a Departmental Editor and reviewers You are required to choose a Departmental Editor for your manuscript. To make the choice easier the Departmental Editors are listed on www.jibs.net, www.outdare.com/jibs/org/department_editors and in the front cover of the journal. At www.outdare.com/jibs/org/department_editors there are hyperlinks giving keywords for each department and paragraphs explaining the interests of each Departmental Editor. Please choose a category that best suits your manuscript. Please choose one name under that category.
On occasion the research in question may not match the interests of any departmental editor. JIBS will then invite a special Departmental Editor to process the paper. To initiate request for a Special Departmental Editor, submit paper and request directly to dtrojan@duke.edu.
You are asked to nominate possible reviewers for your manuscript, to a maximum of four. The Departmental Editor will assign three reviewers for your manuscript: one from JIBS Editorial Review Board; one from the Departmental Editor's ad hoc list; and a reviewer from the author's nominations.
Manuscript format and style guide All manuscripts should be double-spaced. Margins should be one inch (2.5cm) at the top, bottom, and sides of the page. There are no set word limitations, however, we prefer under 10,000 words (approximately 50 pages). If your manuscript is considerably longer, we ask that you shorten it before submission, or it may be returned without review. JIBS does not distinguish between research notes and regular papers. These word counts include notes, references, appendices, tables/figures/charts etc.
(a) Title page On a separate title page list
Title, full names and affiliation of all authors; Corresponding author's name; Corresponding author's full postal address; Corresponding author's telephone number; Corresponding author's fax number; Corresponding author's email address; Suggestions for a short running title of no more than 40 characters (including spaces). This information is required by the publisher when sending out proofs.
(b) Abstract Authors will be asked to upload a 40-70 word abstract when submitting their manuscript. Please be sure that the abstract page does not contain any information identifying the author(s). Also, please take care to create a title and an abstract that are direct and 'reader-friendly'. Titles should be short, and abstracts should be informative for non-specialists.
(c) Keywords Include up to six keywords that describe your paper for indexing and for web searches in your manuscript.
(d) Text The introduction should state clearly the objective of the paper as well as the motivation and context of the research. The literature review should be limited to the articles, books and other items that have a direct bearing on the topic being addressed. Theoretical papers may devote a full section to the motivation and potential usefulness of the proposed theoretical framework. Empirical papers that do not develop new theories or hypotheses should be kept short. The empirical section should give details of the methodology used only if it is new. Details of the empirical section tests should not be included in the paper itself. The conclusion should summarize key findings and state their importance to the field. The first lines of paragraphs, except the first paragraph of the manuscript, should be indented and separated by a double carriage return.
(e) References The reference list should follow the notes at the end of the manuscript in Harvard (name and date) format. Authors should make certain that there is a complete reference for every citation in the text and that the cited dates and the spellings of the authors' names in the text and references are in agreement. The following are examples of proper form:

All submitted manuscripts must be accompanied by a statement signed by all authors that the article is original, is not under consideration by another journal, has not previously been published elsewhere and its content has not been anticipated by previous publication.
