About the journal
Strength of Materials focuses on the strength of materials and structural components subjected to different types of force and thermal loadings, the limiting strength criteria of structures, and the theory of strength of structures. Consideration is given to actual operating conditions, problems of crack resistance and theories of failure, the theory of oscillations of real mechanical systems, and calculations of the stress-strain state of structural components.
Strength of Materials is a translation of the peer-reviewed Ukrainian journal Problemy Prochnosti, a publication of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.

Instructions for Manuscript Preparation
Strength of Materials covers results of fundamental experimental and theoretical scientific research in the field of strength of materials and structural components as applied to engineering. The journal is published in Russian and in English. The papers deal with investigations of strength of materials and structural components subjected to different types of mechanical and thermal loadings, criteria of ultimate strength of structures, a theory of strength of structures with consideration given to actual operating conditions, problems of crack resistance and theories of failure, a theory of oscillations of real mechanical systems, and calculations of the stress-strain state of structural components. The influence exerted on structural strength characteristics by various coatings is evaluated. Special attention is given to problems of strength of materials and structural components under extreme conditions. The journal accepts contributions from all parts of the world. Manuscripts should be of scientific and practical value and should not be published previously.
Layout
The manuscript including abstract and references must be typed single-spaced using a laser/jet printer on one side of good quality white A4 (210 — 297 mm) paper. The printing area is 160 — 237 mm. Margins are set as follows: left 25 mm, right 25 mm, top 30 mm, bottom 30 mm. To give maximum consistency, the manuscripts should be prepared in Word for Windows (not below version 6.00); the use of 12-point Times New Roman is recommended for a hard copy of the text and 10-point Times New Roman for an electron version. The maximum length of a paper cannot exceed 12-15 pages. Number each page consecutively in the top right-hand corner of each sheet. Please make use of the maximum length of the last page.
Title, Author(s) Name(s) and Affiliation
The title should be a concise, accurate statement of the contents of the article. The title must not exceed 3 printed lines; it should be typed in all bold capitals at the top of the first page flush to the left margin. After one line of space, the author(s) initials and surname(s) should be provided in bold capitals and lower case. These are to be indented five spaces. The author(s) affiliation, city, and country should be given as a footnote at the bottom of the first page.
Abstract, Keywords, and Sections
Papers must begin with an abstract about 100-200 words, italicized, indenting five spaces from the left margin and leaving five spaces from the right margin of the page. Abstracts should be informative and summarize the significant coverage and findings. Up to 5-7 keywords reflecting the content of the contribution must be supplied below the abstract after a line of space. Authors are urged to arrange the subject matter clearly under such headings as: Introduction; 1. Experimental / Theoretical Details; 2. Results; 3. Discussion, etc. Subsections should be identified with sections and subsections numbers. All headings are typed in bold capitals and lower case and should be indented five spaces. Do not insert a line of space between the heading and the text following it. The paper must end with a set of conclusions; the heading is in all bold capitals flush to the left margin.
Illustrations and Tables
Illustrations and tables must be supplied in a form suitable for direct reproduction. Tables should be typed within the typing area. All figures and tables must be numbered with consecutive Arabic numbers, have descriptive captions and be mentioned in the text. Each caption should begin with Fig. 1. (2, 3, etc.) or Table 1. (2, 3, etc.). Separate the captions from the actual text by one line of space. Write the captions for figures beneath the figure and the captions for tables above the table single-spaced not centered. The size of the figures and symbols should be sufficiently large to tolerate the reduction to 65 % of the original.
Equations
Equations should be centered and numbered consecutively with Arabic numbers enclosed in parentheses placed flush to the right-hand margin. When referring to equations in the text, preface the number with the Eq. The international system of units (SI) should be used.
References
References to published literature should be indicated in the text with a number in square brackets, e.g., [1]. They should be listed at the end of the paper in the order they appear in the text. Journal references should include: authors initials and surname, initials and surnames of remaining authors, title of article in quotes, italicized abbreviated journal title, volume number in bold type, issue number and inclusive page numbers, year of publication in brackets. References to books should include: authors initials and surname, initials and surnames of remaining authors, the book title italicized, the book language (if not English) in square brackets, the name of the publisher and place of publication, year of publication in brackets. References to multi-author works should include after the title, in:followed by book title in capital and lower case letters italicized, the book language, initials and name(s) of editor(s) in brackets, the name of the publisher and place of publication, year of publication in parentheses and inclusive page numbers preceded by pp.
The references should appear in the following form:

Submission of papers
Authors are fully responsible for the quality of their papers. It is important that grammar and spelling of manuscripts is as correct as possible. One hard copy of the text (or its electronic version in PDF, MS Word or Word Perfect formats) should be submitted to the Editorial Board of the journal for review. A covering letter should be enclosed confirming authorsconsent to publication and assignment of copyright to the Publisher. The electronic form of figures (in graphics files TIFF, TIFF Compressed, PCF, Bitmap (BMP), JPEG, GIF, Windows Meta File (WMF), etc.) should be kept separate from the text files. We would appreciate it very much if you comply with the above requirements. This would speed up the preparation for publication. To get more detailed information, please contact:
