Instructions to Authors
Authorship
Submission of a manuscript implies
- that the work described has not been published before;
- that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere;
- that its publication has been approved by all coauthors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities at the institute where the work has been carried out;
- that, if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication, the authors agree to automatically transfer the copyright to the publisher; and
- that the manuscript will not be published elsewhere in any language without the consent of the copyright holder.
Editorial Policy
PAGEOPH welcomes original contributions in English (and occasionally in French and German) on all aspects of geophysics. All manuscripts should be submitted to the Regular Issues Editor-in-Chief, in triplicate, formatted with double spacing and wide margins. For further details see the following paragraphs.
Format of Manuscripts
Length and Page Charges A paper should not exceed 16 printed pages including tables and figures. For articles exceeding 16 printed pages the author will be charged sFr. 80.00 for each additional page. No page charges, except those for color prints, are required for contributors to special issues.
Title Page This should include the complete title, full names and addresses of all authors. In addition, corresponding authors should provide their fax number and e-mail address if they are available.
Abbreviated Title It is necessary to indicate an abbreviated title, which will be used as a running head (no more than 50 characters including spaces).
Abstract The abstract should be in English, and in the language of the text, if different. It has to be of appr. 10 sentences and should be concise and self-contained.
Keywords Up to 6 keywords should be listed, suitable for incorporation into information-retrieval systems.
Text The text must include a citation for each item listed under References; the approximate position of each figure should be indicated in the text. The metric system should be used throughout the text, figures, and tables.
Tables Tables are to be presented on separate pages, with a brief title for each.
Figures Figure captions and legends are to be entered on a separate page or pages as the last element in the manuscript. Make sure that line thickness and lettering allow an adequate size reduction. Heliographic or photocopies are not suitable for reproduction. High-quality prints must be submitted. Color prints are permitted but authors will be charged for them.
References They are to be listed in alphabetical order in the following style: Journal article: Haurwitz, B., and Cowley, A.D. (1973), The Diurnal and Semidiurnal Barometric Oscillations, Global Distribution and Annual Variation, Pure Appl. Geophys. 102, 193?22. Whole book: Bath, M., Introduction to Seismology (Birkhäuser, Basel 1973). Article in a book: Haurwitz, B., and Cowley, A.D., Barometric oscillations, In Introduction to Seismology (ed. Bath. M.) (Birkhäuser, Basel 1973) pp. 193?22.
Submission of Manuscripts
Manuscripts must be submitted in triplicate, typewritten with double line spacing and wide margins. Copies of the figures should be attached at the end of the manuscript. High-quality prints may be submitted later. All manuscript pages, including references, tables, and captions, should be numbered consecutively, starting with the title page as page one.
All manuscripts should be submitted to Regular Issues Editor-in-Chief

The final version of a manuscript accepted for publication in PAGEOPH should be sent as both a hard copy and on diskette to the Editor-in-Chief. Delivering manuscripts in electronic form may substantially facilitate the publication process provided certain points are taken into consideration:
- Texts should be delivered in Ms Word or Wordperfect - Mathematics in Tex, LaTex and any Tex formats - Figures in TIFF (high resolution) or EPS
The electronic and printed versions must be absolutely identical. All pictorial and graphic illustrations should be delivered as hard copy originals. Do not fail to include a hard copy for ready viewing. Back-up copies of the diskettes must be kept. Diskettes must be adequately protected for transport.
Galley Proofs
Unless indicated otherwise, galley proofs will be sent to the first-named author directly from Birkhäuser Verlag AG and should be returned with the least possible delay. Textual alterations made in the galley proof stage will be charged to the author. One copy of the corrected proof is to be returned immediately. The editorial office assumes no responsibility for delayed proofs, errors in the original manuscript, or major alterations in proofs for any reason.
Reprints
The authors will receive 50 reprints of each article without charge. Additional reprints may be ordered in lots of 50 when the final corrected page proofs are returned. Orders submitted thereafter are subject to considerably higher rates.
