Polish Archives of Internal Medicine is an open-access journal and does not charge readers for access to the full texts of the articles. The journal is published in print and online versions. The editors declare that the print version is the primary version of the journal and should be used for reference. Aims and scope Polish Archives of Internal Medicine is an international, peer-reviewed periodical issued monthly in English as an official journal of the Polish Society of Internal Medicine. The journal is designed to publish articles related to all aspects of internal medicine, both clinical and basic science, provided they have practical implications. Polish Archives of Internal Medicine appears monthly in both print and online versions. Show Instructions for authors Download instructions in pdf:  Review articles - current policy Due to a large volume of presubmission queries regarding potential publication of review articles, we would like to inform that our current priority is to publish solicited reviews. However, we will also consider unsolicited reviews submitted by authors with substantial contribution to the field. A presubmission query should contain a short description of the subject, an abstract, and a list of papers related to the field (for each individual author). Presubmission queries can be sent to the editorial office at pamw@mp.pl. Instructions for authors General information All submissions should be in English. American English is required. Polish authors are required to submit the Polish version of the title page, abstract, and key words. All submissions must be accompanied by a covering letter, in which authors must state any conflict of interest. The manuscripts should not have been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. An appropriate written statement ought to be made in the covering letter. On behalf of all the authors, the corresponding author should state that all authors have read the manuscript and approved of its contents. Authors should avoid duplicate or redundant publications. Information of any published work that concerns the same patients as the present paper should be given in the covering letter. We encourage all authors to suggest 2 suitable reviewers for the submitted manuscript by providing their full names and e-mail addresses in the covering letter and in online submission system. Authors may exclude up to 3 referees from the review process. All correspondence from the Editorial Office will be sent via e-mail. Once the manuscript has been accepted for publication, the corresponding author will be asked to fax a signed copy of the Copyright Transfer Agreement and Conflict of Interests form. The authors are required to honor the ethical principles for clinical research based on the Declaration of Helsinki. The Ethical Committee’s approval of any clinical study submitted to this journal should be clearly stated in the "Methods" section. All patient personal details must be kept confidential. Graphs or photographs published previously in other sources may be used by the Authors only if they obtain a written permission for publication from the copyright holder and present it to the publisher of the Polish Archives of Internal Medicine, Medycyna Praktyczna. Accepting an article for publication in the Polish Archives of Internal Medicine implies that both the Editorial Office and the Publisher acquire the ownership of it. Therefore, such articles must not be published in any part or form in other periodicals without the prior permission in writing of the Editorial Office. Review of manuscripts All articles must undergo peer review. They will first be reviewed by the Editors. Manuscripts deemed to have sufficient priority and quality will be peer reviewed. All texts provisionally accepted for publication will undergo a statistical review. The fast track assessment is not available. Manuscripts submitted to the Polish Archives of Internal Medicine which do not comply with the Instructions for Authors will be returned for revision, and corrected versions may then be resubmitted. Types of articles Letters to the Editor, which pertain directly to an article published in the Polish Archives of Internal Medicine within the preceding 6 months, will be considered for publication. Letters may also comment on important advances in internal medicine published in any peer-reviewed journal within the preceding 6 months or report preliminary research results. A letter must not exceed 1500 words and must be limited to 6 authors and 5 references. They should not have more than 1 table or figure. Authors of the original article cited in the letter will be invited to reply. Editorials contain commentaries on current important clinical studies with a brief summary of the original paper (up to 120 words). An abstract and keywords are not required. All editorials should be limited to 1500 words and 15 references. Editorials will be invited by the Editors. Otherwise, Authors should contact the Editorial Office before submitting an editorial. Review articles will be solicited by the Editors. Unsolicited reviews are currently not considered for publication and, if submitted, will be withdrawn from the system. All authors of a review article need to have substantial contribution to the field. An appropriate statement should be included in the cover letter. Review articles should not exceed 5000 words including references (not more than 50). A different format or unstructured abstract is permitted.  Original articles presenting the results of original studies should be of 4000 words or less, including tables, legends to figures, and references. An abstract and key words are required. Case reports are currently not considered for publication. The case report section was discontinued on October 26, 2009. Clinical image section was introduced in January 2013. Clinical or basic science images that illustrate interesting or uncommon findings, provide insight into mechanisms underlying human pathology, or present a new therapy will be considered for publication. The written portion of the submission should include a title page, text of no more than 500 words, up to 5 references (if appropriate), and 1 figure (CT scan, photograph, X-ray, MRI, etc.) with a figure legend. The paper should have no more than 6 authors. Movie clips should not be submitted. Preparation of the manuscript The manuscript should be organized as follows: 1) title page; 2) abstract; 3) key words; 4) introduction; 5) patients and methods; 6) results; 7) discussion; 8) acknowledgments; 9) references; 10) tables; 11) legends to figures; 12) figures. A number of figures and tables should not exceed 8. The style and spelling of American English should be used. Articles must be typed unjustified using Times New Roman for the text font and Symbol for the Greek and special characters. Title page should include the following: 1) the title (maximum 200 characters); 2) full names of the authors (no more than 12); 3) the institutions where the study was performed; 4) a short running title (maximum 50 characters); 5) the name, address, telephone/fax numbers, and an e-mail address of the corresponding author. Polish authors should also submit the Polish version of the title page. Abstracts must not have more than 250 words and should be formatted with the following headings: 1) Introduction; 2) Objectives; 3) Patients and methods; 4) Results (specific data and their statistical significance if possible); 5) Conclusions. Abbreviations should be used only if needed and spelled out at the first appearance. The abstract should emphasize new aspects of the study. Abstract should be followed by up to 5 key words in alphabetical order. Main body All manuscripts ought to be prepared using a Word processing package (saved in .doc format). All pages should be double-spaced and numbered. Standard abbreviations should be used. Abbreviations should be spelled out when first mentioned in the text. We encourage authors to use the International System of Units (SI units) in lower-case letters (e.g. mmol/l). Blood pressures should be given in millimeters of mercury and body temperature in degrees Celsius. Statistical tests should be clearly described at the end of the "Methods" section in a separate paragraph. References should be identified by Arabic numerals in square brackets and numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the manuscript. Personal communications, unpublished data, or manuscripts submitted for publication should not appear in the reference list; such reports may be inserted in parentheses in the text only. Journal names should be cited according to Index Medicus. If a journal is not listed in Index Medicus, its full name should be given. The references should be compiled at the end of the manuscript using the Vancouver style of citation. For journal articles with more than 3 authors, only the first 3 authors should be listed. Figures Legends should be brief and given on a separate page. However, all abbreviations should be spelled out. Figures must be cited in the text in numerical order and referred to as Figure in brackets. All figures (not more than 5) should be of high quality and submitted in separate files. Two-colored figures should be saved in .tiff format at a resolution of at least 300 pixels for photographs and 1200 pixels for black and white line drawings. Color figures are not recommended and in each individual instance the agreement of the Editor is needed. Color figures can be uploaded as online supplementary data at no charge. Figures may be reduced and cropped at the discretion of the Editor. Tables Tables, each on a separate page, should be typed with minimum redundant space. Each table should be assigned an Arabic numeral and a brief heading. Each abbreviation should be spelled out in footnotes, not in the heading. Statistical measures of variation used in each table such as standard deviation should also be identified in footnotes. Acknowledgements All sources of funding and contributions should be listed after the main text in front of references. They may include for example the number of a research project supporting the work, and thanks to persons whose considerable contribution to the paper preparation was not sufficient enough to rank them as authors. Conflict of interest All authors must make a formal statement indicating any potential conflict of interest. The statement should be provided at the bottom of the title page. If there are no conflicts of interest, please write: Conflict of interest: none declared. Proofs Proofs will be e-mailed to the corresponding author as PDF files. The Editorial Office has the right to correct linguistic errors prior to sending proofs to the author. Proofs should be checked thoroughly for any possible errors and returned via e-mail or fax to the Editorial Office within 3 working days. Subsequent additional corrections will not be possible.
