About the journal

The VUW Political Science and International Relations Programme publishes New Zealand's sole professional journal for the discipline of political science. Political Science was established in 1948 by students within the Department and today publishes articles and book reviews across all areas of the discipline. Contributors (and subscribers) include both New Zealanders and political scientists overseas.

 


Instructions to Authors

Manuscripts must be typed, double-spaced and on one side.

Drawings (graphs, figures, etc.) should be of laser print quality on separate sheets, and should also be on disk.

Footnotes should be used sparingly. They should be numbered consecutively and appear on the bottom of each page.

The following system of footnoting should be used:

First book citation: Charles E. Lindblom, The Intelligence of Democracy (New York, 1965), p. 60.
Subsequent citation: Lindblom, The Intelligence of Democracy , p. 65.

First journal article citation: Charles W. Anderson, 'The Place of Principles in Policy Analysis', American Political Science Review, Vol. 73 (1979), pp. 711-23.

Subsequent citation: Anderson, 'The Place of Principles in Policy Analysis', p. 720.

First book article citation: Andrew Sharp, 'The Treaty, the Tribunal and the Law: Recognising Maori Rights in New Zealand', in Hyam Gold (ed.), New Zealand Politics in Perspective , 3rd ed., (Auckland, 1992), p. 123.

Subsequent citation: Sharp, 'The Treaty, the Tribunal and the Law', p. 128.

Do not use ibid. , loc. cit. , and op. cit.

Use single quotation marks throughout (including article titles), double quotation marks inside single.

The closing quotation mark comes after the last punctuation mark, thus: '... ended.'

Quotations longer than 4 lines should be indented
