Instructions to Authors
Call for Papers There is no better time to submit your manuscript to Perspectives in Psychiatric Care. Here's why:
Convenient and fast online submission ISI Journal Citation Reports?Ranking of 13/42 Nursing (2007 - Science) Official Journal of the Adult and Geropsychiatric-Mental Health Nurses (AGPN) Division of the International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses (ISPN) All articles appear online in a fully searchable and user-friendly format
Information for Authors
Perspectives in Psychiatric Care (PPC) is the peer-reviewed, international interdisciplinary resource for advanced practice psychiatric nurses and for nurse psychotherapists. The journal publishes original articles about innovations in clinical practice, education, or administration; case presentations; public policy information; synthesis of research findings; and original research. Contributions should (a) clearly specify the nursing problems/issues, (b) make a compelling argument for the way in which the author addresses the issues, (c) provide information that will facilitate clinical judgments, (d) describe how clinicians can best use the information presented, and (e), where applicable, include a list of additional resources (including Web sites) that provide related information for clinical judgment.
Manuscript submission PPC accepts original contributions through online submission to Manuscript Central at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ppc.
Please log in to the site with your username and password and choose the "Author Center" option. (If you are a new contributor, first choose the "Create an Account" tab in the top right corner of the window.) Complete instructions are provided to guide you through the submission process, but questions about this process can be directed to Managing Editor Kristen Overstreet at kristen.overstreet@mac.com.
Prepare separate files for the (a) abstract, (b) body and references, (c) figures, (d) tables, and (e) pictures. Contributions should be typed in 12-point font, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins, and no longer than 20 pages total. Identify each page with a number in the upper right corner.
The submitting author should enter his/her contact details, as well as information about their co-authors. To ensure a double-blind peer review process, authors' names and other identifying information should not appear in any uploaded files. A title page can be uploaded separately from the other files and designated as a "supplementary file NOT for review."
Include a structured abstract of no more than 100 words. Headings for research abstracts are Purpose, Design and Methods, Findings, and Practice Implications. For other abstract types, please use Purpose, Conclusions, and Practice Implications. Include 3 to 5 relevant keywords as search terms.
Contributions should conclude with a final paragraph under the heading Implementations for Nursing Practice. Authors should address this issue to help readers judge the existing evidence for decision-making.
Each figure and table should be referenced within the text and include a short legend.
References Whenever possible, references should be limited to publications within the last 5 years. References should follow the format of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th ed. (2001). For example:
General Formatting Requirements Follow the style of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th ed. (2001). Authors can access excerpts from the manual at: http://www.apastyle.org. Use generic names for medications. Put all measurements in the metric system. Acknowledge any funding (monetary or in-kind support or provision of equipment) for conduct of the research or preparation of the manuscript. If any author has a financial stake in the funding agency or a product mentioned in the manuscript, state this also.
Art work, figures, charts, tables
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce any copyrighted material, including text, tables, photographs, and figures; see Copyright Transfer Agreement below. If photographs of people are used and the person is identifiable, copies of the person's permission to use the photograph must accompany the manuscript.
Label and title all figures and include the necessary legend(s). Submit vector graphics or line art saved as Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) or PDFs and halftones or photographic images saved as Tagged Image Format Files (TIFF). Please find detailed information online at www.blackwellpublishing.com/authors/digill.asp for electronic submissions. Do NOT submit figures as Word (.doc), Excel (.xls), or PowerPoint (.ppt) files.
Refereed publication All manuscripts will be reviewed by the Editor, and if deemed appropriate for PPC, at least two members of the review panel. PPC uses a double-blind peer-review process. Accepted manuscripts may be revised to conform to the journal's standards and style.
Copyright Transfer Agreement Please see Wiley-Blackwell's Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA) available at http://media.wiley.com/assets/1540/87/ctaaus.pdf. The CTA will need to be completed, signed, and submitted after a manuscript has been accepted and prior to sending the manuscript to the production team for publication.
If you are including another author's work in your manuscript, including modifying or adapting another author's methodology, tables, figures, etc., you must seek permission from the copyright holder to republish the work. The copyright holder may or may not be the author. Contact the author, editor of the published work, or the publisher to investigate who the copyright holder is and begin the process of obtaining permission. This process often takes 6-8 weeks to complete, or longer if the copyright holder is difficult to contact. For more information, see information about copyright and fair use at http://www.copyright.gov/.
NIH Public Access Mandate Authors can note on the CTA that they received NIH funding, and Wiley-Blackwell will post the accepted version of the manuscript to PubMed Central on the author's behalf. For more information, please go to: http://www.wiley.com/go/nihmandate
Author order After a manuscript has been submitted, any change to the listed order of the authors must be accompanied by a statement indicating the change and signatures from each of the authors signaling their agreement. This statement must be sent to the Managing Editor by email or fax (1-303-420-5749).
Dual Submission It is unethical to submit a manuscript to more than one journal at a time. If the manuscript was submitted to Journal A and received a decision of "major revision," for example, after the first round of review, the manuscript can not be submitted to Journal B until the author has formally requested that the manuscript be "withdrawn" from consideration from Journal A. (Receiving a decision of "reject" ends the submission process and the manuscript may be submitted elsewhere.)

Letters to the Editor Letters to the Editor are welcomed and will be published on a space-available basis. Letters may be revised to conform to the journal's standards and style. Please send correspondence to Geraldine S. Pearson, PhD, APRN, FAAN, at gpearson@snet.net.
Authors for whom English is a second language may choose to have their manuscript professionally edited before submission to improve the English. A list of independent suppliers of editing services can be found at http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/bauthor/english_language.asp. All services are paid for and arranged by the author, and use of one of these services does not guarantee acceptance or preference for publication.
Online production tracking via Author Services Author Services enables an author to track his/her article - after it has been accepted - through the production process to publication online and in print. An author can check an article's status online and choose to receive automated e-mails at key stages of production. For more information, visit www.blackwellpublishing.com/bauthor.
