About the journal
Pakistan Journal of Zoology (PJZ)
Within a year of the establishment of the Zoological Society, arrangements were completed for the publication of Pakistan Journal of Zoology. The first issue of the Journal was published in June, 1969. Since then it was published regularly, twice a year. In 1985 the biennial Journal was upgraded to quarterly publication. Ever since its first issue Pakistan Journal of Zoology has been published uninterrupted for the last 35 years. The number 1 of volume 36 of year 2004 is due to appear in March 2004. The Journal has a wide circulation in- and outside Pakistan. It is abstracted/listed by all the leading Abstracting Services of the world, like Biological Abstracts, Chemical Abstracts, Current Contents, Zoological Records, Information Retrieval Limited, London, Services Centrale de Documentation de l’ORSTOM, Paris, Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, Institute of Scientific Information, Moscow, etc.
On subscription or in exchange, the Journal is sent to 125 institutions in 110 countries which include Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Columbia, Cuba, Denmark, East Germany, Egypt, Finland, France, Holland, Hungary, India, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Kazakhsean, Kenya, Libya, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Paris, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Turkmanistan, U.K., U.S.A. and Russia. In exchange, the Society receives 91 journals and periodicals.
The articles submitted for publication in Pakistan Journal of Zoology are peer reviewed by international experts.

AIMS AND SCOPE
Pakistan Journal of Zoology (Pakistan J. Zool.) publishes original articles in English on all aspects of animal life. Generally these articles will be in, or related to one of the following subject areas: Physiology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Toxicology, Developmental Biology, Entomology, Parasitology, Microbiology, Pathology, Palaeontology. Taxonomy, Environmental Biology, Wildlife, Fisheries, Vertebrate and Invertebrate Morphology. Short communications, and Notes and Comments are also published. Review articles are not published in Pakistan Journal of Zoology.
SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS
The manuscripts can be submitted as full length papers or as short communications. All manuscripts should be submitted in triplicate (an original and two copies) complete in all respects and typed strictly according to the style of PJZ to Prof. Dr. A.R. Shakoori, Editor, Pakistan Journal of Zoology, School of Biological Sciences, University of the Punjab, Quaid-i-Azam Campus, Lahore-54590, Pakistan.Manuscripts must also be emailed as attached Word files to the editor of PJZ: arshaksbs@yahoo.com ; arshakoori@sbs.pu.edu.pk .
STYLE OF THE MANUSCRIPT Manuscripts not conforming to the instructions below will be returned for reformatting without review. The manuscript should have a uniform style, typed in double spacing on one side of the paper, and consist of sub-sections in the following sequence: (1) Title page, (2) Abstract, (3) Text (to be subdivided into Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion), (4) Acknowledgements, (5) References, (6) Footnotes, (7) Tables complete with title and footnotes (8) Legends of figures and (9) Figures in that order. Each section should start on a new page.
Title page The first page of manuscript should include the following: (i) Complete title of paper, (ii) Full names of authors, (iii) Institution from which paper emanated with complete address, (iv), Total number of Figures and Tables included, (v) Running title, (vi) Name, address (postal as well as e-mail) telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address of the corresponding author and (vii) Any necessary footnote. AbstractAn abstract of not more than 250 words for full length papers and 150 words for short communications should be prepared. Suggest key words for the purposes of indexing at the end of Abstract.
List of Potential RefereesA list of at least three potential referees from industrially advanced countries in the west, with full names, designation, affiliation and functional e-mail addresses may be included. Failing to provide the addresses may delay the processing of the manuscript.
TextIntroduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion will be the only central headings which will appear in bold capital letters. All other headings will be treated as side headings and will appear in low case italics. Nothing in the text, except scientific names, should be underlined or italicized.
AcknowledgementsThe source of financial grants and other funding must be acknowledged. The contribution of colleagues or institutions should also be acknowledged. Conflict of interest declaration. Conflict of interest or otherwise must be declared.
ReferencesReferences should be cited in the text by giving the author's name followed by the year (e.g. Ahmad, 1990). Same principle will be followed for two authors (e.g. Saleem and Ali, 1988). In the case of three or more than three authors, the references should be cited as Shaikh et al. (1989). All the references mentioned in the text should be listed in alphabetical order at the end of text as follows. Names of the Journals should be abbreviated according to the latest edition of the World List of Scientific Periodicals. MOHIUDDIN, A., 1957. Notes on a new strain of Plasmodium inui. Riv. In the event that a cited author has two or more works published in the same year, the reference, both in the text and in the reference list, should be identified by a, b etc after the date for distinguishing the work. In short communications, references listed at the end should comprise complete names of authors, year of publication, name of the Journal, volume, first page, and the last page.
GENERAL MANUSCRIPT INSTRUCTIONS The manuscript should be typed double spaced throughout on one side of bond or heavy-bodied paper 8½" x 11" (22 x 28 cm) with a 1" (2.5 cm) margin on all sides. Indent the first line of all paragraphs in the text and of all captions and footnotes. All lines of the manuscript should be numbered continuously. Tables – Tables should be self-contained and complement, but not duplicate, information contained in the text. Tables should be numbered consecutively in the text in Roman numerals. Legends should be concise but comprehensive. Vertical lines should not be used to separate columns. Column headings should be brief, with units of measurement in parentheses; all abbreviations must be defined in footnotes. Footnote symbols: + -, §, should be used (in that order) and *, **, *** should be reserved for P-values. Statistical measures such as SD or SEM should be identified in the headings.
Illustrations – In general, to achieve greatest fidelity and rendition of detail it is preferable that the printer works directly from original photocopies or drawings with as little reduction as possible. Illustrations should be prepared for reproduction as halftones or line drawings. All illustrations are to be submitted in complete and finished form, with adequate labeling, each on separate sheet. The photographs should be glossy black and white prints. The full cost of the blocks will be borne by the authors.
Colour illustrations – Authors will be responsible for all costs. Copyright – Papers accepted for publication become copyright of the Editorial Office, Zoological Society of Pakistan, University of the Punjab, Quaid-i-Azam Campus, Lahore-54590, Pakistan and authors will be asked to sign a transfer of copyright form. Articles cannot be published until a signed Copyright Assignment Form has been received.
Page charges – The Executive Council of Zoological Society of Pakistan has decided that Fellows of the Society be allowed first 1 printed page free of cost; they be charged, from second page onwards, at the rate of Rs. 750/- per page. All other authors will have to pay for all the printed pages at the rate of Rs. 750/- per page. The foreign contributors will be required to pay US $ 15.00/ per printed page
Page-proofs and reprints – Page-proofs will be sent to the authors for correction which should be returned within 72 hours of their receipt via E-mail. Authors may be required to pay for alterations in proofs other than those needed to correct printer's errors. No reprints will be supplied.
