Its range covers world politics and the global economy; state powers and protest movements; contemporary social theory; history and philosophy; cinema and literature; heterodox art and aesthetics. It stands resolutely opposed to Third Way pieties and neoliberal prescriptions, combating capital's current apologists with sharp and scholarly analysis, internationalist critique, polemic and experiential prose. A Brief History of New Left Review covers the development of the journal's first forty years. The new series was launched with a major editorial statement, Renewals by Perry Anderson. Published every two months from London, the 160-page journal carries articles, interviews, topical comments and book reviews. Read all over the world, NLR is flanked by editions in Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil) and Turkish; more are planned. A complete index of the Review, going back to 1960, can be searched by author, title or subject. The NLR Online Archive now includes the full text of all articles: please ask your librarian to ensure that they have a subscription. Two or three articles from each issue of the new series are available free, and subscribers to the print edition get access to the full archive.   Instructions to Authors New Left Review welcomes the submission of articles, comments and book reviews on all the major issues facing us today. Authors should bear in mind that NLR is a journal of ideas, not an academic publication: lively, intelligent and thoughtful writing is highly valued¡ªprose models would be Benjamin, Bloch or Marx rather than the average conference paper¡ªand articles should be submitted with an educated and discerning general readership in mind. Word length This should be guided by intellectual necessity; however, the majority of articles published in NLR are between 4,000 and 12,000 words long, while book reviews are around 2,000¨C3,000 words. Footnote style Footnotes are set at the bottom of the page, and are welcomed for their role in clarifying sources and suggesting parenthetical or tangential ideas. They should not be used to amass cumbersome apparatuses of unnecessary bibliographic information, and should never refer to works that authors have not yet read. Contributors are also encouraged to refrain from self-citation.
