About the journal

The magazine Mljekarstvo, as a scientific-professional magazine, is published quarterly. Although the magazine Mljekarstvo is not the oldest publication dealing with the production and processing of milk and dairy product issues, it is necessary to point out the fact that it is the only scientific - professional dairy magazine in Croatia with 58-year tradition of being published. The first issue, published by the Croatian Dairy Operators' Association, was published in 1951. In a paper at a Union conference held 28 October 1951 in Zagreb it was said: "Our desire is that this magazine does not meet the fate of its predecessors, but that it continues to reflect the creative efforts and to provide guidelines for the producers as well as all other operators employed in the dairy industry." It is our pleasure today to say that wishes of the enthusiasts who attended the conference have come true, and the magazine Mljekarstvo during the last 58 years was a reflection of the creative efforts of numerous dairy scientists and experts, and through its texts it served as a guideline in improving production and processing of milk and dairy products. Mljekarstvo has been following all the achievements of the dairy profession in Croatia, and it also gives the short surveys of world achievements. The result of the research of local and foreign scientists and experts always find their place in the magazine Mljekarstvo. It has been edited by our outstanding dairy experts employed at colleges, research institutions and dairy companies. Mljekarstvo publishes the following categories of articles: original scientific papers, previous statements, scientific notes, professional papers, author reviews, and presentations from scientific conferences in Croatian and English language. Presentations from the scientific conferences are published only if they were not previously published in Proceeding of papers. The categories mentioned above are subject to reviews. Each paper undergoes the reviewing procedure through a standard review pattern and according the Instructions for the writing reviews. Opinion of two reviewers is mandatory and debatable cases (a negative review, disagreeing of the author of an article with the observations of the reviewer and the like) an opinion of the third reviewer is required. Nowadays the papers published in Mljekarstvo are quoted in many bibliographic databases, which in any case is a broad scientific information: Agricola, CAB Abstracts, Food Science & Technology Abstracts, Agris, Chemical Abstracts, EMBiology, EBSCO Publishing, SCI Expanded.

Instructions to Authors
Authors are kindly asked to read following instructions while preparing the manuscript for publishing in Mljekarstvo (Dairy). Mljekarstvo (Dairy) publishes: original scientific papers, preliminary communications, scientific notes, reviews, professional papers, written in both Croatian and English. All contributing manuscripts will be subjected to critical review by the referee’s. Difference between scientific and professional papers is in theirs original results and conclusions as well as method used. Although professional paper may be more useful for the application it is not considered as a new scientific contribution. Original scientific papers report results of author’s own original research, which should be explained in discussion and if possible, statistically analyzed. Experimental results should be presented in a way that enables reproduction and verification of analysis and deductions on which the conclusions are based. The paper should be divided into the following sections: Summary (in Croatian and English); Introduction; Materials and methods; Results and discussion; Conclusions; References. Preliminary communications are brief accounts of work still undergoing evaluation and development which require immediate publication. Publication of this paper obliges author for submitting an original scientific paper after the research is completed. Scientific notes (short communications) include reports on shorter but completed research or descriptions of an original labo- ratory technique (methods, apparatus etc.). Reviews are complete overviews of new scientific facts and/ or results of scientific research form greater number of authors, including discussion of a certain problem based on literature facts and author’s own assumptions. Author’s reviews provide an up- to-date survey of particular problem or an area in which, prefer- ably, the author himself is active. Professional papers present new possibilities of improve- ment within areas of dairy science. The emphasis is on the application of known methods and facts as well as on broadening the knowledge in the particular area. The acquired knowledge is applied to the object of research. Manuscript preparation Manuscript should consist of max. 15 pages including tables, graphs, schemes and photography’s. It should be written on A4 paper format (21,0 x 29,7 cm) with the most 34 lines and margins 2,5 ac. The title of the paper should be short. Under the title, authors name/names and addresses should be written. Paper has to be written without spelling mistakes, imper- sonal avoiding passive tenses. The first word in the paragraph must not be retracted. Paragraphs have to be separated by clicking on enter key. Pages have to be numerated (on the bottom right). For the well-known methods and techniques an adequate reference(s) citation will be sufficient. Results and Discussion - The information give in tables and figures should not be repeated, only relevant data are discussed and explained. Conclusions have to briefly explain significance of the research results. References should be selective rather than extensive (with the exception of review articles). If the original literature cited has not been available, the authors should quote the source used. Authors of the selected reference must be on the refer- ence list. After quotation, authors surname with the year when paper was published have to be written in the bracket, such as (Kirin, 2007). If the paper was written by two authors, both surnames have to be written egg. (Kirin and Antunac, 2007). If the quoted paper was written by many authors, the first author’s surname is written with mark “et al.” and the year when paper was published, eg. (Kirin et al., 2007). In the reference list which has to be written on the end of the paper, all authors have to be written (surname and name initials, the title of the paper, publisher, place and year of publishing and pages) in alphabetical order, and paper of the same author by chronological order. If there are more papers from the same author published in the same year, references have to be differentiated by letters (a, b, c, d) behind the year of publishing. In case of multi author papers, in reference list all the authors have to be written (not the first author and mark “et al.”). Titles of books and papers have to be written in italics. For papers pub- lished on the web, it is necessary to write the source and the date when the paper was downloaded, besides basic information (title, author’s name, ect.), eg. http//www.findarticles.com/p/articles (03.04.2006). (1997): Somatske stanice i njihov utjecaj na kakvoću i preradu mlijeka, Mljekarstvo 47 (3), 183-193. (Number 47 stands for volume, number (3) for number of journal, and 183-193 are page numbers of the paper in journal). Literature citations in the text should be referred by author’s name and year, in brackets. If there are more than two authors, mention the first author and add “et al.”, followed by the year: A list of References should be arranged alphabetically: author(s) surname and name initial(s), title, editor place and year of pub- lishing as well as pages (from - to).
