About the journal

Monthly journal, devoted to the problems of veterinary medicine and applied biology, founded 1945 by the professors of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University Maria Curie-Sklodowska in Lublin, Poland. Supported by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Contents: reviews and original papers – with English summaries, professional problems, bibliography, chronicle.

Instructions to Authors

"Medycyna Weterynaryjna" publishes reviews and original papers in the field of veterinary medicine as well as applied biology.

 

Materials submitted for publication should meet the following criteria:

 

the manuscript should not exceed 10 pages including references, tables and illustrations,

 

two copies of the work and one electronic version should be sent to the editor, including the original,

 

each page should have a 4 cm left margin, there should be 30 lines per page, without any differentiation of the font (e.g. underlining, italics, etc.).

 

The following format should be followed in the manuscript:

 

the title of the study is to be situated in the middle of the page;

 

under the title, the name and surname of the author(s);

 

in papers originating from scientific institutions, name of department, faculty and institutions the exact address, postal code included, should be placed under the name; in manuscripts not originating from specific centers the city/town and address should be under the author’s name; in the case of authors based in more than one institution, the place of employment should be marked by an asterisk, e.g.Jane Doe*, *Institute of Veterinary Hygiene,, etc.,

 

conclusions at the end of original works cannot simply repeat the results of the research;

 

the academic or professional title, first name and surname of the main author, as well as his or her address, e-mail and fax/telephone number should be given on the separate page.

 

Measurement units should be used according to SI.

 

Tables (marked as such), limited to the absolute minimum, should be separated from the text and numbered with Arabic numerals. Every table should have a title and possibly an explanatory caption. In construction of the table should be used only continuous lines.

 

Illustrations should be kept to the minimum and comply with the following technical requirements:

 

the format should be no larger than A4 (29 x 21 cm);

 

black and white or color photographs should be on shiny paper or sharply focused transparencies and figures and graphs should be submitted both in printed and electronic versions

 

all labels should be clear, numerals and letters on the illustrations should be of such a size that upon reduction 90 mm they would remain clearly legible,

 

illustrations should be numbered on the reverse side, including the author’s name; captions and explanatory comments are not to be placed underneath them, but listed separately.

 

The critical literature, on separate pages, should be limited to a reference list, it should be listed in alphabetical order according to the surnames of the first authors;

 

Each position should include;

 

the ordinal number, surname of the author(s) and initials, names of co-authors, a full title of the paper in the original language, the bibliographic abbreviation of the periodicals name, year of publication and volume (not in bold), as well as the first and last page numbers of the article,

 

to maintain the alphabetical order of the references, the historical particles of the first author (van, von, der, de) should be given at the end of his/her surname. This principle does not apply to any additional authors,

 

in anonymous publications the abbreviation Anon. (for anonymous) should be used; verbal, personal, or unofficial information as well as internet sources should not be listed as references;

 

in the body of the text the ordinal numbers from the literature should be used in the documentation, instead of the authors’ names. The bibliographic abbreviated names of periodicals should be according to the versions on the cover of the periodical. Books should only be listed in rare instances, well-known books are to be omitted, and the following order is to be followed: author’s surname, initial(s), book title, publisher, place of publication, year, page number if necessary. In the case of citing conference materials, the bibliographic notation should be the following: author’s surname(s), initial(s), title, conference title, place, volume if necessary, year, page number. When citing doctoral or post-doctoral dissertations, additional information is needed.

 

The following should be enclosed with the paper:

an introductory letter from the head of the department, if the study is sponsored by the unit;

 

a statement claiming that the study will not be published anywhere else without the consent of the editorial board;

 

n approval by an Ethical Commission if the study is based on experiments with animals.

 

Original studies and review articles should be accompanied by broadening of summary in English. The author(s) surname(s) and initial(s) should be listed at the top of the summary and the title underneath them. Summary should contains the same elements which are exerted in the work, i.e. aim of the study, material and methods, essential results and conclusions. Introduction data should be omitted. 3-4 keywords should also be included.

 

The Editor reserve the right to introduce corrections concerning accuracy, style and abbreviations. All major changes will be consulted with the authors.

 

The Editor do not return manuscripts, nor do they make photocopies of published papers and they do not publish personal acknowledgements.

 

The potential contributors or their institutions should subscribe to „Medycyna Weterynaryjna”. Publication of original research materials is subsidized by the authors or the institutions they represent. In exceptional fully justified cases the Editor can waive this condition.
