About the journal
The Journal of Value Inquiry is an international, peer-reviewed, philosophical quarterly, founded in 1967 by James Wilbur, devoted to the stimulation and communication of research in value studies. The essays published in the journal concern the nature, origin, experiences and scope of value in general, as well as problems of value in such fields as culture, aesthetics, religion, social and legal theory or practice, ethics, education, and methodology, technology and the sciences. The Journal of Value Inquiry is a forum for presentation of the rich diversity of approaches available to value inquiry. It is committed to openness, cosmopolitanism, and the sharing of insights about humanity.
Besides full-length essays, the journal publishes notes, communications to the editors, book reviews, interviews, dialogues, reports, and a News column. Abstracted/Indexed in: ABI inform, Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Current Contents/Arts and Humanities, IBZ, ISI Alerting Services, SCOPUS
Instructions to Authors
General The Journal of Value Inquiry is a referee−assisted scholarly publication.It publishes as "Articles" philosophical essays up to 25 pages intypescript. Two−part essays, each part able to stand alone, and totalling nomore than 50 pages, will be considered. In the Journal section "Forum" theJournal welcomes non−polemical responses to its recent essays or reviews,limited to 10 typed pages. "Reports" are published of major scholarlyconferences and other activities in the field of values, limited to 15 typedpages. "Survey" articles on themes in value inquiry and essays on"Classical revisited" are generally invited.
In addition to "Book reviews" of recent publications, the Journal welcomesshort "Second look" essays on neglected books and full−length "Reviewarticles" on major recent works. "Interviews" and "Dialogues" areorganized by the Editors, involving outstanding contribuors to the field.The Journal publishes "News" of values studies from throughout the world,including regular columns for the American Society for Value Inquiry, theInternational Society for Value Inquiry and the Conference on Value Inquiry.The Journal publishes "Special issues" on major topics, as well as shorter"Symposium" treatments. In the March 1994 issue (Volume 28, No. 1) acumulative index of the first 25 volumes (1967 to 1991) has been published.The language of the journal is English.
Manuscript Submission All manuscripts to be considered for publication in this Journal should besubmitted to:

The author's name and full address have to be supplied ONLY on a cover sheetso that the manuscript is suitable for triple blind reviewing. The coversheet should also contain the full title of the manuscript.
Manuscripts submitted for publication may not be offered elsewhere unlessthe Journal has failed to exercise its option to publish. The receipt of allsubmitted materials will be acknowledged. The Journal endeavors to informauthors of its decision within 120 days of receipt. Style/Format (1) Manuscripts must be typewritten with double spacing and adequate margins. All the pages of the manuscript should be numbered consecutively, includingthe cover sheet as page 1, and the (End)Notes.
(2) Submission in electronic form of the final version of a manuscript is compulsory.
(3) New paragraphs should be indicated ONLY by clear indentation of the firstline, NOT by an extra space−line!
(4) The Notes should be numbered consecutively throughout the article andtyped in double spacing as well as at the end of the manuscript.
(5) References to books should include the author's name, full title, placeof publication, publisher's name, and date of publication.
References tojournals should include the author's name, full title within quotationmarks, name of the journal, volume number, year of publication, followed bythe page(s) to which reference is being made. Follow the format, shown below:

(7) The Editors reserve the right to edit manuscripts for style andconsistency. Proofs and offprints (1) Authors of articles (not reviews of other items) will receive 50offprints free of charge.
(2) Two sets of proofs will be sent to the authors for corrections only; themanuscripts in their accepted form will be considered to be definitive and aexcessive number of alterations may be charged to the author.
(3) Please retain one correctes proof, and send the other one together withthe original, edited manuscript to the "Editor of the Journal", withinthree days of receipt.
(4) Ordering information for additional offprints will be sent along withthe page proofs to the corresponding author, and have to be returneddirectly to Springer, Production Department, P.O. Box 990,3300 AZ Dordrecht, The Netherlands.
