About the journal
JPE has been presenting significant research and scholarship in economic theory and practice since its inception in 1892. Publishing analytical, interpretive, and empirical studies, the Journal presents work in traditional areas--monetary theory, fiscal policy, labor economics, development, micro- and macroeconomic theory, international trade and finance, industrial organization, and social economics
Instructions to Authors
Papers submitted to the JPE must not have been published and must not be under consideration elsewhere. Authors of comments must correspond with original author(s) and include this correspondence with the cover letter at the time of submission. Authors of accepted papers will receive instructions on how to prepare their final version.
It is the policy of the Journal of Political Economy to publish papers only if the data used in the analysis are clearly and precisely documented and are readily available to any researcher for purposes of replication. Authors of accepted papers that contain empirical work, simulations, or experimental work must provide to the Journal, prior to publication, the data, programs, and other details of the computations sufficient to permit replication. These will be posted on the JPE Web site. The Editor should be notified at the time of submission if the data used in a paper are proprietary or if, for some other reason, the requirements above cannot be met. All manuscripts submitted to the journal must be accompanied by a $125 submission fee for nonsubscribers or a $75 submission fee for JPE subscribers. (Please download the JPE submission fee form.) The proceeds from the submission fees are used to pay for refereeing services, and decisions will not be released until the fee has been submitted. Please note that credit card charges are collected through the University of Chicago Press business office and will appear as PRESS BOOKS on your credit card statement.
