The Journal of Neuropathology and Experimental Neurology (JNEN) is an international journal of neuropathological research and is the official journal of the American Association of Neuropathologists, Inc. Contents include peer-reviewed studies in neuropathological research, covering a broad spectrum of fields in basic neuroscience with an emphasis on human neurological diseases.

For over 50 years, the Journal of Neuropathology and Experimental Neurology has been the worldwide forum for groundbreaking studies in neuropathological research. By consistently attracting contributions from the world's leading neuropathologists, neurologists, and other neuroscientists, JNEN has become an indispensable resource for researchers and practitioners in a broad spectrum of fields in neuroscience.

Instructions to Authors
EDITORIAL POLICY

The Journal of Neuropathology and Experimental Neurology(JNEN) is owned by the American Association of Neuropathologists, Inc. (AANP). The Journalpublishes original articles, editorials, book reviews and letters.
Submission of a manuscript implies that it is sent exclusively to this Journal, and its contents have not been published previously except in abstract form. Transfer of copyright to the AANP signed by EACHauthor is necessary for publication. Manuscripts must be written in English and must conform to the format specified in the section on "Preparation of Manuscript." Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two referees. In the letter of submission authors may suggest the names (include addresses, phone and fax numbers) of three potential referees. Authors may also request that certain persons notbe used as referees. The Editor-in-Chief will try to honor these requests. The covering letter should contain a statement that all authors have seen and approved the manuscript. Any conflict of interest of any of the authors should also be disclosed. When necessary, the authors should state that they have adhered to the standards of their institution's committee on human experimentation, or the National Research Council's Guide for the care and use of laboratory animals. All portions of a manuscript may be edited at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief. If a manuscript is returned for revision, the revised manuscript must be returned to the Editorial Office within three (3) months of the date it was returned to the authors; otherwise, it will be treated as a new submission. No copies of the manuscript will be returned to the authors, but the illustrations will be returned when a paper is not accepted for publication.

PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPT

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS ON DISK IN MICROSOFT WORD IN ADDITION TO A HARD COPY IS REQUIRED. WORDPERFECT FILES MUST BE SAVED AS MICROSOFT WORD FILES. The file submitted on the disk must be the final/revised version of the paper and must match the hard copy (paper) version exactly.
DOUBLE-SPACE allparts of the manuscript on white bond paper. Do not justify the right margin, do not hyphenate at the ends of lines, and do not use bold or italic type (italics should be indicated by an underline). Submit four copies with three sets of illustrations. Type the corresponding author's name in the upper right hand corner of each page and number the pages consecutively. Footnotes are not accepted except in Tables. Begin each of the following divisions on a new page.
     1. TITLE PAGE.List: Short title, not over 50 characters (counting letters and spaces); complete title; authors' names, degrees, and affiliations. Indicate the author who will handle correspondence concerning the manuscript and who takes the major responsibility for its contents and the statements made in the covering letter. Include a complete address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address. List sources of support in the form of grants. Written justification of the role of each author is required when there are seven or more authors.
     2. ABSTRACT.In a single paragraph (200 words or less) state the purpose, findings and conclusions. Abstracts may not contain references.
     3. KEY WORDS.A maximum of seven should be listed in alphabetical order below the abstract. Use Index Medicus terms from the Medical Subject Headings whenever possible.
     4. INTRODUCTION.State the purpose of the work, previous contributions of the authors and others and hypotheses.
     5. MATERIALS AND METHODS.Describe the subjects, methods, reagents, and procedures with appropriate references.
     6. RESULTS.Present in a logical sequence in text, tables, and illustrations. Avoid excessive repetition of data.
     7. DISCUSSION.Stress the original aspects of the study and conclusions. Cite and analyze the important work of others. Do not repeat data given in "Results." Avoid claims of priority and allusions to uncompleted work. State new hypotheses if warranted, but clearly label them as such.
     8. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS.List only persons who have made substantive contributions. Material from other publications must be acknowledged; written permission from the owner of the copyright to reprint any portion or figure must be submitted with the manuscript.
     9. REFERENCES.Number entries consecutively in the order in which they are mentioned in the text. Give text citation by number in parentheses. List only references cited in the manuscript. The author(s) are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of references. Only published works and papers in press should be referenced; designate the journal followed by (in press). Always include a preprint of all references listed as (in press) when the manuscript is submitted. Work in progress, unpublished experiments, and personal communications are excluded from the reference list but may be acknowledged in the text. Authors must obtain written permission from the appropriate person to cite unpublished data and personal communications. Abbreviations of journals must conform to those in the currentList of Journals Indexed in Index Medicus. Examples of correct forms and punctuation for references are given below.References that do not conform to the Journal'sformatting requirements may be returned to the author.

     10. TABLES.Type each table on a separate page with all lines double-spaced.Number tables consecutively with arabic numbers and supply brief titles. Give each column a short heading. Explain all abbreviations and symbols in a footnote. Identify statistical measures of variations such as SD and SEM. Omit internal horizontal and vertical lines.Cite each table in the text in consecutive order. Tables should be included in the electronic file on disk.

Figure parts must also be labeled in lower left corner of image, i.e. "A", "B", "C", etc. If there is a large number of figures or parts to each figure, the two reviewer sets may be mounted. However, the printer set must be unmounted. The reviewer copies of the illustrations may be color xeroxes or computer-generated black and white images (not black and white photocopies). Paste a label on the back of each illustration with the figure number, an arrow to indicate the top and the author's name.
