Instructions to Authors
REQUIRED Failure to comply with any of these guidelines may result in the JHR returning manuscripts to authors for reformatting.
The JHR will not consider a submission complete until both the electronic and hard copies are received. Electronic Copy General
Submit your paper via email, as two attached files, one consisting of the paper itself and one of the title and authors names. Each is explained separately below. Note also (see below) that the JHR also requires hard copies to complete a submission.
It is helpful, but not necessary, if the electronic file names contain useful identifying information, such as an author's name or the first word of the title, and whether it is the paper or the title page (for example, smith_paper.pdf and smith_title.pdf).
In your covering email make sure to include the names of the authors, the title of the paper, and the address of the corresponding author including phone and fax numbers.
Electronic Copy The Title Page
Send this file as a Microsoft Word or a WordPerfect file. Don't worry about the document properties on this file; information needed includes the paper title, authors names, and the corresponding author's address including email.
Electronic Copy The Paper
Send the paper as a PDF file with no identifying information. Check the Document Summary (Ctrl +D or File, Document Properties, Summary) for any identifying markers. There should be nothing in the fields listed in the Document Summary.
If you have tables, figures or any other additional files that you can not attach to the paper prior to converting it to a PDF, please PDF them as well and send them.
If you cannot create a PDF file, email the documents (the title page and the paper) in MS Word format. Do NOT send separate Excel spreadsheets with tables. Do NOT send individual tables.
At most the paper itself should be contained in two files (text plus tables/figures) one is preferable.
The Hard Copies
In addition to the two electronic files, authors are also required to send Two hard copies of the paper to the JHR office in Madison. Submissions will not be considered until both electronic and hard copies are received. Send Two hard copies of each manuscript following in this format: Single-sided pages Double-spaced lines throughout all text and endnotes One-inch or wider margins All text and endnotes in 12 point type or larger Include an abstract of no more than 100 words Author name(s), address(es), institutional affiliation(s), and any acknowledgments should appear only on the title page of the manuscript. Remember to include the title on the otherwise anonymous manuscript. ADDRESS FOR SUBMISSIONS
Do not send submissions directly to the Editor or Coeditors. Failing to send submissions to the Madison office will only delay consideration.
