About the journal As the official journal of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, Foreign Language Annals is dedicated to the advancement of foreign language teaching and learning. The journal seeks to serve the professional interests of classroom instructors, researchers, and administrators concerned with the teaching of foreign languages at all levels of instruction.
Foreign Language Annals is a refereed journal published quarterly (four issues per year). Preference is given to articles that report educational research or experimentation, that describe innovative and successful practice and methods, and/or that are relevant to the concerns and issues of the profession. Special articles are occasionally commissioned but manuscripts on a wide variety of topics are welcomed.
Instructions to Authors
Manuscript Style and Format APA style (the style set by the American Psychological Association) is used for text, references, and notes. Detailed style guidelines, including examples, are available in the Guidelines for Manuscript Preparation on the ACTFL Web site: http://www.actfl.org.
To be considered for publication, manuscripts should be double spaced throughout (including notes and references) with margins of at least one-and-one-half inches. Preference will be given to manuscripts that do not exceed 35 double-spaced pages.
To assure anonymity the names of the authors and school affiliation should not be included within the abstract or article itself. Any names identifying individuals or institutions (including acknowledgments) should be masked with ¡°XXX¡± in the original submission. If the article is accepted, this information can be included in the final version.
Submission Requirements Foreign Language Annals publishes only original works that have not been previously published elsewhere and that are not under consideration by any other publication.
Each submission must contain the following five components: (1) title; (2) list of authors (including designation of corresponding author); (3) abstract of the article; (4) five keywords; (5) subject classifications (including language and instructional level); (6) manuscript, including notes and references.
All corresponding authors are required to read and accept the Author Agreement form on behalf of all authors on a submitted manuscript. This is a binding contract. The Author Agreement form is available on the ACTFL Web site at http://www.actfl.org and on the Editorial Manager Web site at http://fla.edmgr.com.
Where to Submit All submissions are to be made electronically via the Foreign Language Annals page hosted by Editorial Manager (http://fla.edmgr.com).
Acknowledgment, Review Procedures, and Manuscript Acceptance All properly submitted manuscripts will receive an e-mail acknowledgment of receipt from the Journal Office. All properly submitted articles will be sent out for peer review shortly after receipt. Authors will be informed about the status of the article once the peer reviews have been received and processed. Reviewer comments will be shared with the contact author. Once an article has been accepted for publication, the contact author will receive further instructions regarding the submission of the final copy.
