About the journal

Electronics Letters embraces the entire field of modern electronics, including electronic science and engineering, telecommunications, optoelectronics and optical communication. It is widely recognised as being the leading journal in its field for the rapid publication of short international research papers at the cutting edge of electronics technology and is highly cited. Some 1,500 peer-reviewed articles are published each year, with the aid of an international panel of over 6,000 referees selected from leading workers in their respective fields.

Electronics Letters is also available in pdf format via IEE Online Journals. Application for a free trial access to this online journal can be made via the

Instructions to Authors

Electronics Letters is intended to provide a rapid means of communicating new information and results on important topics of current research interest. Submissions should therefore record original work not previously published in the open literature. Submissions under consideration, or already accepted for publication, by another publisher are not acceptable for Electronics Letters. Submissions should not depend in any way upon work still under consideration by any publisher.

Electronics Letters embraces electronic science and engineering, telecommunications, optoelectronics and optical communication. Contributions of a theoretical or mathematical nature should show a specific application in one of these fields.

Authors are usually notified of the decision to publish a paper within six weeks of receipt. The date of receipt of the manuscript is published. To maintain the speed of publication, proofs are not sent to authors, and corrections cannot normally be made once a contribution has been accepted.

Authors are not encouraged to resubmit declined papers and referee comments are not sent to authors.

Submission Procedure

Submission must be by ONLY ONE of the following methods:

Mail: Please send five, good quality, single-sided paper copies of the manuscript with a set of figures attached to each to:

The Executive Editor, Electronics Letters, Publishing Department, IEE, Michael Faraday House, Six Hills Way, Stevenage, SG1 2AY, United Kingdom.

E-mail: Manuscripts may be submitted as e-mail attachments to elsubmissions@iee.org.uk.

Please send one or (preferably) both of the following formats. No other format should be submitted.

PDF (for referral purposes) - this must be a single document containing all text and graphics.

A covering letter/e-mail must accompany the submission and include the following information: corresponding author s name, address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail, category of paper and associated keywords/indexing terms (these will enable us to choose the most appropriate referees for your paper please see the keyword list (PDF format*).

AUTHORS MUST NOT SUBMIT MANUSCRIPTS BY FAX.

Manuscript Requirements

Failure to comply with the following rules will delay the handling of the submission or, in the case of overlong papers, result in the manuscript being returned to the authors without being sent to referees. In such cases, no date of receipt will be assigned.

Letters must not be longer than 83 column cm or just over 3 columns when printed in the journal. A detailed guide to length estimation appears below.

Letters should concentrate on results and conclusions, and include only the minimum of supporting material necessary for a proper understanding of the significance of the communication. Results should not be split up into more than one Letter merely to satisfy length requirements.

The complete manuscript should be in single column format with double line spacing and a font size of at least 10 pt.

A sample submission document (pdf format*) is available here.

The order of material in the manuscript MUST be as follows:

Title page comprising a brief, informative title, full list of authors's names and their affiliations and the e-mail of the corresponding author.

Abstract of not more than ~ 50 words (for use by abstracting organisations).

Main text: equations, tables and figures should be numbered consecutively throughout the paper. Bold type should be used to distinguish vector, tensor and matrix symbols from scalar quantities. SI units and ISO and IEC recommended unit symbols, letter symbols and nomenclature should be used.

Acknowledgments (if any) to individuals, funding bodies, etc.

List of references numbered in the order in which they appear in the text (numbers enclosed in square brackets, thus: [12]). All authors of a paper must be included. Titles of books or papers in languages using the Roman alphabet should be given in the original language. Only items published or accepted for publication may be cited in the reference list.

List of captions and subcaptions for both tables and figures.

Tables, each on a separate page and numbered.
