About the journal

Chemie der Erde, one of the oldest journals for geochemistry-related topics, promotes broad interdisciplinary discussion on chemical problems in the geosciences, geoecology and environmental sciences. Numerous contributions by young authors have allowed the journal to retain its „young" scientific profile. Publications addressing interdisciplinary questions are particularly encouraged. The journal, through very personalized consultation and its worldwide distribution, offers entry into the world of international scientific communication. The international journal „Chemie der Erde" publishes original papers, brief news items and surveys of selected topics.

Instructions to Authors

1.Copyright

Submission of a manuscript implies that the submitted work has not been published before (except as part of a thesis or lecture note or report, or in the form of an abstract); that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors as well as by the authorities at the institute where the work has been carried out; that written permission of copyright holders was obtained by the authors for material used from other copyrighted sources; that, if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication, the authors hand over the transferable copyrights of the accepted manuscript to the publisher; and that the manuscript or parts thereof will thus not be published elsewhere in any language without the consent of the copyright holder. Copyrights include, without spatial or timely limitation, the mechanical, electronic and visual reproduction and distribution; electronic storage and retrieval; and all other forms of electronic publication or any other types of publication including all subsidiary rights.

Chemie der Erde publishes manuscripts in English and German. One original and one copy of the manuscript, including figures, as well as one electronic copy should be submitted to:
    Prof. Klaus Heide, Editor-in-Chief
    "Chemie der Erde"
c/o Urban & Fischer Verlag, Branch Office Jena
    Löbdergraben 14a
    D-07743 Jena, Germany
    Phone: ++49-3641-948-700
    e-mail: ckh@rz.uni-jena.de

Manuscripts may also be submitted, and inquiries may also be directed, to any of the Associate Editors whose addresses are listed on the inside cover of the journal.

  2. Manuscript requirements

    • Hard copies of the entire manuscript should be submitted single-sided, double-spaced, on paper no larger than 8.5 inches 11 inches (quarto) or 21 cm 30 cm (A4).

    • The names of authors should not be capitalized.

    • The International System of Units (SI) should be used.

    • References in the text should be given like
      Smith and Brown (1987)
      or
      (Smith and Brown 1987)

Electronic submission of manuscript may be on disk (CDs, ZIP-diskette, 3.5 inches, 1.4MB or as e-mail attachments, using Word 2.0-6.0 or Word Perfect 5.1, with hard copy (one original, one copy) by postal service. Figures may be submitted as tif, eps or jpg files, but hard copies of all figures are also required.

    • All hard copy figures need to be labeled with pencil on the back side, giving the figure number and the name of the first author.

    • Drawings should be made in black ink, and figures should be glossy prints. - Note: Color figures can be published with costs carried by the author.

  3. Structure of manuscript

The manuscript should consist of a title page, followed by an abstract and list of key words, text, list of references, and figure captions.

    • Title page: It should list the title of the paper, complete names of all authors, their affiliations, and complete address including telephone, fax and e-mail addresses of the corresponding author.

    • Abstract/key words: Authors should take great care in preparing informative abstracts and selecting about 10 key words.

    • Text: Subheadings within the text should be clearly marked. The manuscript should normally contain an introduction, description of analytical techniques and methods, description of samples, results, discussion, and list of references.

    • List of references: Cited references should be listed in alphabetical-chronological order and should include the complete title of the reference, such as
o o Journals: Rietmeijer FJM (2002) The earliest chemical dust evolution in the solar nebula. Chem. Erde 62, 1-45.
o Books: Yuan-Hui L: A Compendium of Geochemistry. Princeton University Press, Princeton and Oxford, 2000.

Published abstracts should be cited like journal articles, except that at the end of the citation after the page numbers, the word (abstract) should be added.

When citing references by the same senior author and some of them are multi-authored, the sequence should be first author only, chronological; two authors, alphabetical and then chronological; for three and more authors, chronological order text has precedence over alphabetical order.

  4. Reprints

For each paper, the corresponding author will receive 50 reprints of the article free of charge. Additional reprints may be purchased.
