About the journal

The Canadian Journal of Mathematics (CJM) and the Canadian Mathematical Bulletin (CMB) are highly respected and strictly refereed journals published by the Canadian Mathematical Society. These journals form an avenue for the dissemination of timely and significant mathematical research to the international scientific community. The journals are produced with the most advanced typesetting technology and follow a rigorous publication schedule.
EDITORIAL BOARD

A common board of respected associate editors assist the mandate of both journals to keep university and industry researchers up-to-date in the current discourse of their field.

The CMS is proud to have achieved a reputation for excellence over the combined 90 years of quality publication in the CJM and CMB. Both journals bring important research that is original, current, and well-written to readers across the world.

The CJM and CMB publish a total of approximately 1,850 pages and 140 articles annually, producing high quality work for a low price. Plus, you receive a 10% discount when you subscribe to both journals.

The CMB appears quarterly and publishes self-contained papers of 15 typed pages or less. Papers whose presentation require greater breadth appear in the CJM, which is published bi-monthly. Both journals focus on ground-breaking research of the highest quality, in exposition as well as content. Both journals welcome submissions in French or English.

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION
Manuscripts for the Canadian Journal of Mathematics should be at least 15 typed pages. Please submit to Canadian Journal of Mathematics, Department of Mathematics, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, V6T 1Y4, Canada, or to one of the associate editors.

Manuscripts for the Canadian Mathematical Bulletin should be no more than 15 typed pages. Please submit to Canadian Mathematical Bulletin, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, L8S 4K1, Canada, or to one of the associate editors.

Between the two journals, there are approximately 140 articles published annually.

The full range of CMS publications is available on-line at
http://www.cms.math.ca/Publications/. By purchasing institutional on-line access, an institution gains access from a single internet domain to the website(s) of the journal(s). For educational institutions, the price is based on the domain serving a single campus. Please contact the Managing Editor, Canadian Mathematical Society, for further information about on-line subscriptions.

General Information

The Canadian Mathematical Society publishes two research journals: the Canadian Mathematical Bulletin for shorter papers and the Canadian Journal of Mathematics for longer papers. To be submitted to the Bulletin, papers should be at most 15 typed pages. Longer papers should be submitted to the Canadian Journal of Mathematics (Department of Mathematics, University of British Columbia, Vancouver BC V6T 1Z2). The Editors-in-Chief may transfer an accepted paper to the other journal depending on the final length of the paper.

All submitted papers are considered subject to the understanding that they have not been published and that they are not being considered for publication elsewhere. To be publishable, papers must treat new mathematical research, be well written and be of interest to a reasonable segment of the mathematical community. Papers may be submitted either in English or in French.

Manuscripts must be in their final form and prepared in accordance with the instructions provided on the inside back cover. Three copies of the manuscript should be sent to the Editors-in-Chief or to one of the Associate Editors. After a paper has been accepted, authors may submit a TeX file of their paper in electronic form.

Copyright
Upon acceptance of a manuscript, an author will be sent an ``assignment of copyright' form, the return of which, duly completed, is a requirement for publication. The Canadian Mathematical Society grants permission to individual readers of this publication to copy articles for their own personal use.

Proofs and Reprints
Authors are provided with 20 free reprints. A proof copy, which is to be corrected and returned, and a reprint order form, will be sent to the author. No alterations or corrections, except printing errors, will normally be accepted at this point. Such changes, if accepted, may incur additional charges.

Preparation of Manuscripts
The Canadian Mathematical Society is committed to processing all submitted papers in the shortest possible time. It is, therefore, vital that authors take great care to ensure that their manuscripts conform to the following specifications:

Manuscripts must be in their final form and on one side of the paper only with generous margins and interline spacing. Three copies must be submitted. The first page should contain a short descriptive title, the name(s) of the author(s) followed by an abstract, not exceeding 200 words, which can be read independently of the paper. This should be followed by the Mathematics Subject Classification Number for the primary and secondary subjects of the article. A list of these numbers can be found in the annual subject index in Mathematical Reviews. The institutional affiliation and complete address (including e-mail if possible) of each author should appear at the bottom of the last page.
Illustrations and diagrams must be submitted on separate sheets. They should be drawn in India ink on white high-gloss paper and be at the quality of a university graphics department. If the illustrations are prepared using computer software that outputs standard PostScript files, these may be included, and, if possible, will be used when printing the paper. The author's name and the title of the paper should be written lightly on the back of each illustration.
Citations should be to an alphabetical bibliography at the end of the paper. The style should conform to one of those used in recent issues of this Bulletin. The list of references should use the standard abbreviations conforming to those shown in the annual index to Mathematical Reviews.
Footnotes, other than those which refer to the title or author(s), should be numbered consecutively and placed at the bottom of the page to which they refer.
The Canadian Mathematical Society encourages the use of TeX for manuscript preparation. The special fonts and formatting files used for CMS publications require that some modification of author-submitted source files be made by the CMS TeX Office. It is helpful if authors minimize their formatting and use of special symbols. An information sheet with further suggestions is available from the CMS TeX Office (Department of Mathematics, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg MB R3T 2N2), or by electronic mail using the address: texeditor@tex.cms.math.ca.
