About the journal
Since 1931, Brittonia, assuming the broadest possible definition of the field of systematic botany, has been an important outlet for the publication of original research articles on anatomy, botanical history, chemotaxonomy, morphology, paleobotany, phylogenetic systematics, taxonomy, and phytogeography. Each issue contains articles by the staff of The New York Botanical Garden and outside contributors, book reviews, and announcements.
Instructions to Authors

- • Manuscripts submitted for review should consist of a single word document with tables, appendices, and low resolution figures (150 dpi) attached at the end of the document. After review, the editor will request that you upload figures and tables separately, with figures submitted as high resolution images as specified in the instructions.
• Manuscripts may be in Spanish or English.
• Manuscripts should not exceed 50 printed pages (including tables, figure legends, literature cited, and appendices).
• Use Times New Roman, 12pt font, for all text (including tables, figure legends, literature cited, and appendices).
• Double-space throughout.
• Do not use justified right margin.
• Assemble manuscript in this order: 1) Title, 2) Abstract, 3) Text, 4) Acknowledgments, 5) Literature Cited, 6) Tables, 7) Appendices, 8) Figure legends, and 9) Figures.
• Newly described taxa should be illustrated by line drawings.
• Do not italicize common Latin words, phrases, or abbreviations (e.g., et al., i.e., sensu, etc.).
