About the journal

Bois et forêts des tropiques
La revue, à l'interface de la recherche et du développement, est entièrement dédiée aux sciences et techniques de la foresterie en régions chaudes. Elle présente trimestriellement l'actualité de nombreuses disciplines scientifiques et techniques. Les articles sont publiés en français, en anglais ou en espagnol.
Depuis 1947, Bois et forêts des tropiques diffuse, dans plus de soixante pays, les connaissances et les résultats de recherche sur les forêts de régions chaudes. La revue publie des articles et des informations sur la filière forêt, sur la gestion multifonctionnelle des espaces ruraux et forestiers et sur les approches environnementales qui en découlent.
Les articles sont accessibles par interrogations de la base de données des archives 1947-2011 de Bois et forêts des tropiques et les articles récents aux Éditions Lavoisier.
Chaque numéro imprimé en quadrichromie comprend un dossier et des articles originaux qui font le point sur des sujets particuliers d’actualité. Il est complété par une chronique économique ou une chronique juridique, des échos de la filière bois et de manifestations internationales, une sélection de livres et de cédéroms.
Bois et Forêts des Tropiques
This is a quarterly magazine, focusing on research and development, and entirely devoted to the various forest and forestry sciences and technologies in the world's hot regions. Each issue deals with topical subjects in a wide range of scientific and technical disciplines. Articles are published in French, English and Spanish.
Since 1947, Bois et Forêts des Tropiques has been disseminating knowledge in more than sixty countries, together with research findings to do with forests in hot regions. The magazine publishes articles and information about the forest and forestry sector, multi-purpose land management, and the environmental approaches resulting therefrom.
Articles are available through database Archives 1947-2011. Recent articles in Éditions Lavoisier.
All issues, with color illustrations, include a special dossier, and original articles dealing with specific topical issues. They are rounded off by economic trends or legal trends, news about the wood and timber sector and relevant international events, and a selection of books and CD-Roms.
Editorial policy
Since 1947, in more than sixty countries, Bois et Forêts des Tropiques has been disseminating knowledge and research findings to do with forests in hot regions. Articles should be short, comprehensive and accessible to the targeted readership. To this end, subjects discussed must be of general interest and addressed to an informed international audience.
Geographical focus and languages
Articles have to do with the world's warm and hot regions, be they in the tropics or around the Mediterranean.
Depending on where authors are from, the magazine publishes articles in French, English and Spanish. Each article in French is accompanied by a one-page synopsis in English. Abstracts are in French, English and Spanish.

How the magazine operates
The way the magazine operates is guaranteed by three committee:
- A scientific committee, made up of members of the international community, representing the external guarantee of the magazine's quality
- An editorial board, which contributes to the implementation of the editorial policy
- A reading committee, which checks and approves articles
Themes
The magazine publishes articles and information about the forest and forestry sector, multi-purpose land and forest management, and the environmental approaches resulting therefrom. In order to act as an organ disseminating the in-depth and broad-based knowledge required for sustainable management in the world's warm and hot regions, the following themes are dealt with:
- International discussions and implementation of international agreements on forests, biodiversity, desertification, and climate change
- Development of policies and economies of countries in the South in the forest-timber-environment sectors
- International timber trade and strategy of the major private operators
- Contribution of different on-going agricultural and forestry speculations to do with carbon storage and clean development systems
- Spatial organization of biodiversity
- Description and dynamics of permanent and forest ecosystems, be they natural or planted
- Behavior of main forest species
- Fauna-flora relations
- Carbon cycles
- Impacts of logging on flora and fauna
- Silviculture of natural forests and plantations
- Agro-silvo-pastoralism
- Land rehabilitation and ecological engineering
- Forest sociology, what motivates those involved, population-tree-forest interactions and coordination of uses
- Integrated forest development and viable management methods
- Multi-purpose land and forest management
- Decentralized management of forest resources and other natural resources
- Knowledge, description, processing and preservation of wood and timber
- Assessment and use of non-ligneous forest products

Please help us to optimise processing of your files and folders!
When you submit a draft article, you must give us e-mail address of each author, please send the files by email or ftp transfer to the BFT journal address. If necessary, you may send the printable version on CD-Rom to us by post. You will need to send us 3 kinds of files:
- File 1 containing your text, abstracts and tables;
- File 2 containing illustrations (photographs and figures with low resolution) and captions, with source files (file 3);
- File 3 (group of files) containing photographs and figures with high resolution, captions (and the name of the photograph’s author in each case).
For figures, diagrams and maps, please use vector software that allows files to be opened with Illustrator. For charts, add files from spreadsheet programs. Photograph files in 10 cm x 15 cm format, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, must be compressed into JPEG at maximum uality. If you cannot provide a digital version of your photographs, you may send us prints or slides. Articles must be no longer than 6 500 words (35 000 signs including spaces), not counting the abstract. You may choose to send your articles in English, Spanish or French, with an abstract and six key words in the same language as the article, at least. The abstracts will be translated and subsequently revised by the editor.
Article :
Articles must present meaningful results that are potentially transferable to other fields. 6 500 words (text + tables + references) with a minimum of 4 photos with legends plus a 275-word abstract.
Research notes:
Short articles concerning studies that are nearing completion, to present preliminary results and/or research prospects. These may, in particular, present a recent or forthcoming thesis. 2500 words (text + tables + references) with a minimum of 3 photos with legends plus a 275-word abstract. Articles must be presented in the following order:
- First page containing the title (maximum 10 words), first names, surnames and addresses of the authors, in full. For the first-named author or the author corresponding with the journal, please provide a current professional address and email address.
- Text in Times New Roman, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing and numbered pages.
- List of bibliographic references (maximum 20).
- Abstract containing no more than 275 words.
- The legends to illustrations (maximum 6 figures, maps and/or diagrams) and photos (about 10) must be supplied on a separate page. Sources or credits for all illustrations must be mentioned as required. The author of each photograph must be named.
- Tables (maximum 5), each with a legend.
- Photos must be numbered in the order in which they appear in the text.
The text should be composed in a single font. Latin names must be in italics, and the names of authors cited in the text in small caps, e.g. TCHOUME et al. All acronyms and abbreviations must be given in full the first time they appear in the text (or as an end-of-page note).
All tables, figures and photographs must have a legend and must be numbered in the order in which they appear in the text. Tables, figures and photos must be announced in the text as follows: tables in Roman numerals (e.g. Table V), figures and photos in Arab numerals (e.g. Figure 2, Photo 2). For figures, please supply high-quality print-outs and make sure you have obtained any necessary permission to publish them.
Bibliographic references must be written as follows in the text: DIOUF (2001); DOMMERGUES, MANGENOT (1970); ( POUTOULI, 1994; CADOU et al., 1952), and when there are three or more authors: ROSSMAN et al. (1995).
The list of references writen in alphabetical order by author concerns only publications mentioned in the text and must be presented as follows: Book: IBGE, 1998.
