About the journal

Astrophysics and Space Science publishes original contributions and invited reviews covering the entire range of astronomy, astrophysics, astrophysical cosmology, planetary and space science and the astrophysical aspects of astrobiology. This includes both observational and theoretical research, the techniques of astronomical instrumentation and data analysis and astronomical space instrumentation. We particularly welcome papers in the general fields of high-energy astrophysics, astrophysical and astrochemical studies of the interstellar medium including star formation, planetary astrophysics, the formation and evolution of galaxies and the evolution of large scale structure in the Universe. Papers in mathematical physics or in general relativity which do not establish clear astrophysical applications will no longer be considered.
The journal also publishes topically selected special issues in research fields of particular scientific interest. These consist of both invited reviews and original research papers. Conference proceedings will not be considered. All papers published in the journal are subject to thorough and strict peer-reviewing.
Astrophysics and Space Science features short publication times after acceptance and colour printing free of charge.

Instructions to Authors
Online Manuscript Submission
Kluwer Academic Publishers now offers authors, editors and reviewers of Astrophysics and Space Science the option of using our fully web-enabled online manuscript submission and review system. To keep the review time as short as possible (no postal delays!), we encourage authors to submit manuscripts online to the journal's editorial office. Our online manuscript submission and review system offers authors the option to track the progress of the review process of manuscripts in real time. Manuscripts should be submitted to: http://ww2.editorialmanager.com/astr/
The online manuscript submission and review system for Astrophysics and Space Science offers easy and straightforward log-in and submission procedures. This system supports a wide range of submission file formats: for manuscripts - Word, WordPerfect, RTF, TXT and LaTex; for figures - TIFF, GIF, JPEG, EPS, PPT, and Postscript.
NOTE: By using the online manuscript submission and review system, it is NOT necessary to submit the manuscript also in printout + disk. In case you encounter any difficulties while submitting your manuscript on line, please get in touch with the responsible Editorial Assistant by clicking on "CONTACT US" from the tool bar.
Figures and Illustrations
Figures and Illustrations should be submitted in such a form as to permit reproduction without retouching. Line drawings should be done in Indian ink, with large enough lettering to permit reduction. All figures should be provided with a caption, numbered. Photographs for reproduction as half-tones should be glossy prints; and if they contain no legend, their orientation (e.g., North- South) should be marked on their reverse side. Authors should realise the importance of good illustrations for fuller understanding of their subject.
Units
All scientific or technical data included in the text should be stated in the metric and other absolute (c.g.s.) systems. The use of the English or other regional systems of units should be avoided.
Footnotes
Footnotes to appear at the bottom of a page should be reduced to a minimum, and used only when essential.
References
References should be collected at the end of a paper, in alphabetical and chronological order. Multi-author references (i.e., of three and more authors) in the text can be given by the name of the first author and the expression ’et al.?/I>, suffixes a, b, etc. following the date being used to distinguish more works by the author in the same year. References at the end of the paper should contain the name and initials of the author(s), the year of publication, suitable abbreviations of the book or journal, its volume, and pages referred to. Quotation of article titles is optional.
Proofs
Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author by e-mail (if no e-mail address is available or appears to be out of order, proofs will be sent by regular mail).
Your response, with or without corrections, should be sent within 72 hours. Please do not make any corrections to the PDF file.
Minor corrections (+/- 10) should be sent as an e-mail attachment to: proofscorrection@wkap.nl. Always quote the four-letter journal code and article number and the PIPS No. from your proof in the subject field of your e-mail.
Extensive corrections must be clearly marked on a printout of the PDF file and should be sent by first-class mail (airmail overseas).
Offprints
Twenty-five offprints of each article will be provided free of charge. Additional offprints (both hard copies and PDF files) can be ordered by means of an offprint order form supplied with the proofs.
Page charges
No page charges are levied on authors or their institutions.
Consent to publish
Consent to publish in this journal entails the author‘s irrevocable and exclusive authorisation of the publisher to collect any sums or considerations for copying or reproduction payable by third parties (as mentioned in article 17, paragraph 2, of the Dutch Copyright Act of 1912 and in the Royal Decree of June 20, 1974 (S.351) pursuant to article 16 b of the Dutch Copyright Act of 1912) and/or to act in or out of court in connection herewith.
