About the journal

Agricultural History is the journal of record in the field. As such, it publishes articles on all aspects of the history of agriculture and rural life with no geographical or temporal limits. The editors are particularly interested in articles that address a novel subject, demonstrate considerable primary and secondary research, display an original interpretation, and are of general interest to Society members and other Agricultural History readers. Instructions to Authors

All manuscripts must be original. Please do not submit pieces that have been published or are under consideration elsewhere.

Authors should submit an electronic copy of their manuscript in Microsoft Word to:

Claire Strom, Editor
Agricultural History
Rollins College
1000 Holt Avenue - 2762
Winter Park, FL 32789-4499
cstrom@rollins.edu

All manuscripts should be:

Double-spaced

No less than 4,000 and no longer than 7,500 words of text; no more than 4,500 words of endnotes/footnotes

Complete with endnotes that are also double-spaced

Written in accordance with Chicago Manual of Style (15th Edition)

Any style questions can be answered by reference to the Chicago Manual of Style (15th Edition) or by contacting our editorial office.

Authors should also send electronic copies (jpg, gif, or tiff) of potential illustrations. Manuscripts containing more than five images or tables should be submitted on a CD or DVD. Do not embed images or tables within manuscript--these should be included as separate files within the email or CD/DVD.

Once received, the manuscript will be sent out for double-blind, peer review. This process usually takes approximately eight to ten weeks.

If the manuscript is accepted for publication, the author will be required to:

Make changes to the piece in response to comments from the reviewers and the editor.

Acquire photo-ready copies and permission-to-use for all illustrations

Resubmit the manuscript on disk or as an attachment in Microsoft Word or RTF. The document must be Windows compatible.

The revised manuscript will be edited by the journal staff before being sent back to the author for final changes and approval. At this stage, no substantial rewrites are possible.

Associate Editors

The associate editors are goodwill ambassadors for the society and the journal. They attend various conferences where they listen to rural and agricultural papers and visit with the presenters. Afterwards they advise the journal staff on the best articles to recruit. On occasion, they also help host social events for the society at these conferences.

The associate editors are Barbara Kimmelman, Sara Gregg, Brian Cannon, Geoff Cunfer, Pamela Riney-Kehrberg, Jim Norris, and David B. Danbom.

Editorial Board

A member of the editorial board reads and reviews every paper submitted to Agricultural History. Their mandate is to assess the relevance of each piece to the society and its members. The members serve a three-year term.
