Contributors should bear in mind that they are addressing an international audience. The journal grew out of a feminist politics and is committed to developing the critical discussion of gender and education in its broadest sense. It is particularly interested in the place of gender in relation to other key social differences and seeks to further feminist knowledge, theory, consciousness, action and debate. We welcome contributions which examine and theorize the interrelated experiences of women and girls and men and boys, and how these shape and are shaped by other social differences. We expect articles to engage in feminist debate and to go beyond the simple description of what boys/men and girls/women do. Education will be interpreted in a broad sense to cover both formal and informal aspects, including nursery, primary and secondary education; youth cultures inside and outside schools; adult, community, further and higher education; vocational education and training; media education; parental education. Contributors are asked to avoid unnecessary or mystifying jargon and to use non-sexist and non-racist language. Peer Review Policy: All research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing by at least two anonymous referees. Instructions to Authors All submissions should be made online at Gender & Education's Manuscript Central site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre. Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text, which should include a title page identifying the author/s, and should be named ''File not for Review'' while in the second all information identifying the author should be removed to allow for peer reviewing of anonymous manuscripts. Please name this ''Anonymous File for Review''. If this instruction is not followed then the article will have to be unsubmitted from Manuscript Central and the author requested to resubmit.   To submit a revised article, please be sure to tick the box ‘Yes' when asked if the manuscript has been previously submitted, and be sure to enter your original manuscript number. When you revise your manuscript please highlight the changes you make in the manuscript by using the track changes mode in MS Word. Please DO NOT simply bold or highlight your revisions. You will need to upload two versions of your revised article to Manuscript Central, following the same procedure as for submitting your initial version:  1. A version with track changes visible should be uploaded and titled 'track changes'. Please select 'supplemental file' from the drop down menu to describe this version. 2. A 'clean' version should be uploaded and titled 'manuscript for review purposes'. The text entered here is sent to reviewers and the author/ s must be anonymous. You will also need to paste your Author/s Response to Decisions into a text file and upload this as a supplemental file along with your revised manuscript and any other documentation related to the submission (e.g. tables and figures).   Manuscripts may fall into one of the following categories: Original articles, between 4,000 and 8,000 words. The upper word limit of 8,000 is inclusive of a bibliography and an abstract of up to 150 words. Please note that your article will be unsubmitted from Manuscript Central if it exceeds this upper word limit. The editors will consider revised articles (up to a maximum word limit of 9,000 words) if reviewers have requested additional material, but all initial submissions must not exceed 8,000 words.  Viewpoints, up to 5,000 words, that are more polemical in tone and possibly based on the life experiences, ideas and views of the writer. The above guidelines on the upper word limit apply. Comment and critique, up to 5,000 words, about current events and policy developments in education. Such comment and critique could relate to the international stage or to a particular country. The above guidelines on the upper word limit apply.    Reviews, Gender and Education seeks to review a wide range of material. We focus on academic books relating to gender, sexuality and education (in its broadest sense), but also review some books directed at practice, some academic books in related fields (for example, on gender theory or gender and employment) and some non-fiction books written for a more general market. We will also consider reviewing relevant films. The reviews editor actively seeks out such material but authors and publishers are welcome to send them review copies and/or publicity material about relevant texts.   Books for review should be sent to Dr Arwen Raddon, CLMS, 7-9 Salisbury Road, University of Leicester, Leicester, LE1 7QR. We mostly publish single reviews of books by individuals of between 650 and 900 words. However, we encourage diversity within reviews and also occasionally publish: jointly-authored reviews, review essays discussing three or more books, paired reviews comparing two books, and extended reviews of books published in languages other than English. Reviews are carried out by people studying or working in relevant areas. Books are usually reviewed by informed non-experts. The reviews editor actively encourages people who are new to reviewing and to journal publication. To this end they send out a ‘Beginners Guide to Book Reviewing' and offer to constructively comment on a draft review. If you would like to review for the journal then you should email the reviews editor directly. Reviewers are asked to give a sense of the content of the book and of its usefulness to readers of Gender and Education. Reviewers should evaluate the book but should also ensure that their review contains something positive. Reviews do not go through a formal peer review process but are edited for style and content by the reviews editor.   Please state clearly in your cover letter and on the first page of your submission which type of contribution you intend to make (article, viewpoint, comment and critique, or review). The full name, postal address and email address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence and offprints should also be included.   All manuscripts submitted are subjected to independent refereeing.   Please note that the upper word limit for articles which have been revised in response to reviewer comments is 9,000 words unless the author feels strongly that they are unable to respond adequately to reviewer recommendations in under 9,000 words. In these instances, authors should contact the journal and make clear their reasons for submitting a revised article with a word count higher than 9,000 words. Acceptance of such articles for further consideration and further reviewing will be entirely at the editors' discretion Manuscripts should not presently be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Submissions should be double spaced, with ample margins and bear the title of the contribution plus an abstract of 100-150 words and six keywords for online searching purposes. In order to protect anonymity, name(s) of the author(s) and institutional address, if any, should appear on a separate title page. The full postal address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence and offprints should also be included. All pages should be numbered. Footnotes to the text should be avoided wherever this is reasonably possible. Tables should be typed out on separate sheets and not included as part of the text. The captions to illustrations should be gathered together and also typed out on a separate sheet. Tables and figures should be numbered with Arabic numerals. The approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the manuscript. Captions should include keys to symbols. Figures. Please supply one set of artwork in a finished form, suitable for reproduction. If this is not possible, figures will be redrawn by the publishers. Articles Accepted for Publication in Gender and Education. Proofs will be sent to authors if there is sufficient time to do so. They should be corrected and returned to the Editor within three days. Major alterations to the text cannot be accepted. Free article access. Corresponding authors will receive free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article.
