Editorial Scope
This unique journal publishes original articles that contribute to the understanding of psychological and behavioral processes as they occur within the ecological constraints of animal-environment systems. It focuses on problems of perception, action, cognition, communication, learning, development, and evolution in all species, to the extent that those problems derive from a consideration of whole animal-environment systems, rather than animals or their environments in isolation from each other. Significant contributions may come from such diverse fields as human experimental psychology, developmental/social psychology, animal behavior, human factors, fine arts, communication, computer science, philosophy, physical education and therapy, speech and hearing, and vision research.
Audience
Professionals with an interest in the understanding of psychological problems arising from the study of animal-environment systems. |
Instructions to Authors
Manuscript Submission: Submit four manuscript copies to William M. Mace, Editor, Ecological Psychology, Department of Psychology, Trinity College, Hartford, CT 06106, or submit an electronic attachment in MS Word to william.mace@trincoll.edu. Only original manuscripts submitted to Ecological Psychology will be considered for publication. The cover letter should include a statement that the manuscript simultaneously is not being submitted elsewhere. Manuscripts will not be returned.
Format and Organization: Manuscripts should be prepared according to the guidelines in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.). Double-space all text. On the first page, indicate the title of the manuscript, the names and affiliations of authors, and the name and address of the person to whom reprint requests are to be sent; suggest a shortened version of the title of the manuscript for use as a running head (40 characters or fewer, including spaces). On the second page, provide a 100- to 175-word abstract. On the third page (the first text page), type the title of the manuscript.
Permissions: Authors are responsible for all statements made in their work and for obtaining permission from copyright owners to use a lengthy quotation (500 words or more) or to reprint or adapt a table or figure published elsewhere. Authors should write to both author(s) and publisher of such material to request nonexclusive world rights in all languages for use in the article and in future editions of it.
Content: Do not use new technical words, psychological jargon or slang, or terminology not consistent with the style guidelines in the Publication Manual of the APA. Define any abbreviations or acronyms the first time they are used.
Figures and Tables: All figures and tables should be numbered separately using Arabic numerals and should be grouped at the end of the manuscript. Clearly visible notes within the text should indicate approximate placement of figures and tables. Figures must be professionally prepared and must be camera-ready. Type figure captions on a separate sheet. Write the article title and figure number lightly in pencil on the back of each piece of artwork. Refer to the Publication Manual of the APA for format of tables. Double-space.
References: Double-space. Compile references alphabetically (see the Publication Manual of the APA for multiple-author citations and references). Spell out names of journals. Provide page numbers of chapters in edited books. Text citations must correspond accurately to the references in the reference list.
Production Notes: After a manuscript has been accepted for publication, its author is asked to provide a computer disk containing the manuscript file. Files are copyedited and typeset into proofs. Authors read proofs to correct errors and answer editors' queries.
Reprints: Authors may order reprints of their articles when they receive page proofs. Printing considerations do not permit the ordering of reprints after authors have returned proofs.
