About the journal

War & Society publishes scholarly articles on the causes, experience and impact of war in all periods of history. While articles dealing with the technical and operational aspects of warfare are considered for publication, the journal's main emphasis is on the broader relationships between warfare and society. The scope of articles published since May 1983 ranges in time from Ancient Greece to the 20th century from the USSR and Europe to North America, Asia, Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

Instructions to Authors War & Society welcomes original papers that match the aims and scope of the Journal on the understanding that the paper has not previously been published, and is not being concurrently submitted for publication elsewhere. All papers will be sent to independent referees. It is a condition of publication that on acceptance of the paper by the Journal Editor that copyright must be assigned to The University of New South Wales.
Submission Articles must be submitted to the Editor, Dr Jeffrey Grey, j.grey@adfa.edu.au
Articles should not normally exceed 10,000 words in length. In preparing the electronic version, there is no need to format articles. Articles must be accompanied by a short abstract outlining the contents (c. 100 words) summarizing the contents of their paper. Articles should also be accompanied by between 5 and 7 key words to aid search ability of the article online. Any acknowledgements should be placed at the end of the article, before any Notes.
