About the journal

Race Ethnicity & Education (REE) is the leading peer-reveiwed journal on racism and race inequality in education. REE provides a focal point for international scholarship, research and debate. It publishes original and challenging research which explores the dynamics of race, racism and ethnicity in education policy, theory and practice. The journal has quickly established itself as essential reading for those working in this field and especially welcomes writing which addresses the interconnections between race, ethnicity and multiple forms of oppression including class, gender, sexuality and disability. All articles are independently refereed and the journal is supported by a distinguished international editorial panel.
Supported by the AERA Critical Examination of Race, Ethnicity, Class and Gender in Education Special Interest Group and the BERA 'ace' Ethnicity and Education Special Interest Group.
Listen to David Gillborn, Editor of Race Ethnicity & Education introduce the journal.

Instructions to Authors
This journal uses ScholarOne Manuscripts (previously Manuscript Central) to peer review manuscript submissions. Please read the guide for ScholarOne authors before making a submission. Complete guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to this journal are provided below.
Papers accepted become the copyright of the Journal, unless otherwise specifically agreed.
All manuscripts should be submitted via the Race Ethnicity and Education Manuscript Central site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site, submissions can be made via the Author Centre.
Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text, while in the second all document information identifying the author should be removed from files to allow them to be sent anonymously to referees. When uploading files authors will then be able to define the non-anonymous version as “File not for review”.
Contributors should bear in mind that they are addressing an international audience. Jargon should be avoided where possible and all authors should use non-discriminatory language. In empirical reports the breakdown of the research sample (e.g. class, race, ethnicity, sex, age and disability) should be clearly stated and acknowledged in the discussion. Authors should define their choice of terms clearly. Rejected manuscripts will not normally be returned to contributors unless sufficient international postal coupons have been sent.
Tables, figures and captions to illustrations. Tables must be typed on separate sheets and not included as part of the text. The captions to illustrations should be gathered together and also typed out on a separate sheet. Tables should be numbered by Roman numerals, and figures by Arabic numerals. The approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the manuscript. Captions should include keys to symbols.
Figures. Please supply one set of artwork in a finished form, suitable for reproduction. Figures will not normally be redrawn by the publisher.
As an author, you are required to secure permission if you want to reproduce any figure, table, or extract from the text of another source. This applies to direct reproduction as well as "derivative reproduction" (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source). For further information and FAQs, please see http://journalauthors.tandf.co.uk/preparation/permission.asp
Citations of other work should be limited to those strictly necessary for the argument. Any quotations should be brief, and accompanied by precise references.
