About the journal

Academia, Revista Latinoamericana de Administraci¨®n favors articles which analyze the practice of management in Latin America, and are also founded on solid theoretical and empirical bases. It also accepts teaching cases, and essays or reflections on teaching and research in the field of management. Schools may contribute by sending in the bibliographies of books published by their teachers in the last decade, or book reviews of relevant material in the Latin American context.

Academia RLA editorial policy is orientated towards:

1.  An advanced academic audience

2.  An international comparative focus on Latin-America;

3.  Establishing links between CLADEA association schools, mainly in the region¡¯s languages.

4.  Preferring empirical qualitative and quantitative research; and

5.  A pluralist approach regarding perspectives and methods in management and related disciplines.

Articles may be presented in Spanish Portuguese, and English and entries are not restricted to intellectual production of CLADEA-associated schools. The articles will be evaluated anonymously by staff in CLADEA-member schools and/or members of the editorial committees.

Instructions to Authors

Author Guidelines

Presenting an article/case to the Academia, Revista Latinoamericana de Administración, implies that the author(s) certify and accept that:

  • The article has not been neither published nor accepted for publication in another journal.
  • If the article has already been published, it is the responsibility of the author to provide the correct information on the intellectual property rights holder(s), so that they may grant permission for the article/case to be published in the aforementioned journal.
  • If the article has already been published on another Web site, it will need to be pulled off with the exception of the title, the summary and the key-words, adding a hyperlink to the RLA journal, where the article will appear.

Intellectual Property Rights ?Consejo Latinoamericano de Escuelas de Administración, Lima, Per?
All content of the articles is exclusive responsibility of the author(s). Obtaining permission for any quoted or reprinted material that requires permission is the responsibility of the author.

Presenting the manuscripts and supplementary material

Manuscripts that are accepted for review will be sent out anonymously for editorial evaluation. Submission of a manuscript does not imply commitment to publish in the journal.

The articles must be no longer than 50.000 characters, including spaces, references, appendices, charts and figures, and not weight more than 4 megas. The texts must be typed on a standard Windows word processor and incorporate all graphic elements. Charts in Excel or Power Point must be sent in the programs they were originally elaborated in, along with any original figures or illustrations must be sent apart, in high resolution, preferably exported with the filters .tif or .eps, or .bmp or .jpeg. The documents must be self-containing, with no external links to Web pages, etc.
Given that the manuscripts will be subjected to a double-blind evaluation, anonymity is key. Authors are asked to submit two copies of their manuscript: the first, including all the information relating to the investigation and the author(s) (names, affiliations, and e-mail addresses). The second, to maintain anonymity, will include no information that may reveal the identity. If you -the author- must cite yourself within the text or in the acknowledgements, list your name only as “Author?and include only the publication date of your referenced work (e.g., Author, 2008).
Once a document is accepted for publication, it will be subjected to style correction and be adapted to Academia RLA’s own editorial format. Observing the RLA instructions will allow for a smooth-running process of revision and publication process, and keep errors to a minimum.

Title page, acknowledgements, summary and numbering
The title page –numbered page 1- must be the first page of the document and include the title of the article, the affiliations (university, department, etc.), and the full addresses and contact numbers of the author(s) (address, fax, telephone, e-mail address). If the author wishes to acknowledge any financial support, or help from third-parties, a footnote will have to be added.
Page two must include the title of the article along with a 100 word abstract of the article and a maximum of five keywords that will allow for the document to be correctly placed.
Title, abstract and keywords must appear in Spanish and English.

Titles and subtitles
Each author is free to use their own country’s or school’s conventions; however, these will be adapted to RLA format during the style correction process.

Charts and figures
Useful charts and figures serve to complement and clarify the content of the text. However, given that they are substantially more expensive to elaborate, the value they add to the text has to be carefully considered. Each chart and figure must include all the necessary information for the reader to understand exactly what is intended: title, names of variables, sources of information, measuring units, etc. The charts and figures must be numbered consecutively (a separate series for each) from the beginning to the end of the article.

Citations and references
Giving credit for original ideas and works is an important aspect of proper academic practice. References must be provided within the text by giving the name of the author and the date of the work in brackets. Avoid footnotes throughout, and in particular avoid them for giving such references. Include References on a separate title page presenting them in an alphabetical list of all the works that have been referred to in the text. References will be adapted to the Journal’s style (based on ISO and APA). To refer to an electronic document you must include the following: the name of the author (if known); the full title of the document; the full title of the work of which it is part; if possible the ftp, http, or other address; and the date on which the document was accessed.

Appendices
Particular methodological details, such as the explanations of measure calculations or detailed supporting data, may be given in one or more –concise, but not abbreviated- appendices.

Biographical summary
Should your article be selected for publication, you will be asked to provide a 50 word biographical summary, which must include the place where your highest educational degree was achieved; your current affiliation to the investigation along with your position and interests in it. For example: Academician Gonzalez received a PhD from Universidad Hispanoamericana, Mexico. She is currently an associated professor of Administration and the director of the Center for Management Improvement - Universidad Latina, Guadalajara, México. Her current interests in the investigation include double career families, and the effects of stress in organizations.

Language
Authors must avoid the usage of language and expressions which denigrate ethnic or other groups or that may be interpreted as degrading. Particular care must be taken when referring to gender; for example, the use of the masculine “él?as a collective pronoun may be interpreted as sexual discrimination. It is preferable that the authors use both pronouns, plurals or neutral nouns in order to avoid any language which may possibly be construed as sexist or in other ways discriminatory.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The articles must be no longer than 50.000 characters, including spaces, references, appendices, charts and figures, nor weight more than 4 megas.
