Sie ist 127 Jahre alt. Die älteren Ausgaben reflektieren nicht nur das Auf und Ab der deutschen Ethnologie, sondern sie sind auch ein Spiegel der internationalen Ethnologie. Wissenschaftler wie z.B.Franz Boas (19 Artikel), Bruno Gutmann, Carl Strehlow, Sture Lagercrantz, Leo Frobenius, Carl Meinhof, Günter Wagner, Wilhelm E. Mühlmann, Adolf Bastian, Georg Schweinfurt, Rudolf Virchow, Hermann Baumann, Robert H. Lowie, Felix v. Luschau, Paul Radin, Richard Thurnwald haben hier veröffentlicht. Die Zeitschrift für Ethnologie hat in Deutschland einen besonderen Status. Sie ist die Zeitschrift zweier wissenschaftlicher Gesellschaften, der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Völkerkunde und der Berliner Gesellschaft für Anthropologie, Ethnologie und Urgeschichte. Für letztere ist Dr. Markus Schindlbeck der Herausgeber, für erstere bin ich es selbst. Der Ausschuss besteht aus erfahrenen Wissenschaftlern, die über verschiedene Regionen und theoretische Interessengebiete schreiben. Artikel, die von Ausschussmitgliedern eingereicht werden, werden von externen Referenten gelesen. Die Zeitschrift für Ethnologie hat ihr internationales Profil in den letzten Jahren beibehalten und sogar noch verbessert. Nicht-deutschsprachige Autoren sind u.a. Tim Ingold, Chris Hann, Åke Hultkrautz, Alan Barnard, Monnie Adams und Douglas R. White. Die Aufsätze erscheinen auf deutsch oder englisch, doch allen ist eine englische Kurzzusammenfassung beigefügt. Die ZfE steht in folgenden Registern: Abstracts in Anthropology, Anthropological Literature, Institute for Scientific Information, Sociological Abstracts. Im Zeitraum 2000 bis 2005 ist die ZfE mit positivem Ergebnis von ISI Thomson evaluiert worden und ist ab der Ausgabe 130(1) 2005 in folgenden Datenbanken registriert: Social Science Citation Index and Current Contents/Social & Behavioral Sciences. Günther Schlee Herausgeber    Instructions to Authors Guidelines for Contributors All manuscripts should be submitted to the editors of the journal. The editors welcome original articles up to 8.000 words, reviews up to 1000 words, in German or English. The submitted articles should not be under consideration elsewhere. Articles should be printed in 1 2 space on one side of the paper only with a 3 cm margin on all sides. Please submit a total of three copies. Avoid underlinings as far as possible. Foreign words should be italicized. Articles should be accompanied by English abstracts of not more than 200 words. References within the text should be cited in the following form: (Best 1924:184). Footnotes should be kept to a minimum and they must be numbered consecutively throughout the text. Any figure captions should be on a separate sheet. On a further sheet complete references to all works cited must be listed, arranged in alphabetical and calendrical order, as in the following examples: Best, Elsdon 1924: The Maori, Vol. 1. Wellington: Polynesian Society. Firth, Raymond 1936: We, the Tikopia. London: George Allen and Unwin. Firth, Raymond 1940: The analysis of mana: An empirical approach. Journal of the Polynesian Society 49:483-510. Howard, Alan; Kirckpatrick, John: 1989. Social organization. In: A. Howard and R. Borofsky (eds.), Developments in Polynesian Ethnology. Honolulu: University of Hawaii Press, pp. 47-94. Tables, maps and illustrations should be on separate page, numbered and with headings. Indicate in the text where they should appear. All articles are submitted to referees. Responsibility for opinions published remains with the authors. When articles have been accepted in their final form they should be presented for publication on a 3.5 inch disk accompanied by hard copy. Please keep formatting and the use of tabs and spaces to a minimum. Authors will receive proofs for correction which have to be returned within ten days of receipt to the publisher. Authors of articles receive 30, reviewers 13 free offprints.
