Instructions to Authors
Behavioral Disorders( BD) is published four times each year by the Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders, a Division of the Council for Exceptional Children. Papers published in this journal are reports of original investigations and theoretical papers that relate to the education of students with emotional and behavioral disorders. Publication policy is established by the Council¡¯s Publications Committee. BD publishes reports of research, program evaluations, and position papers related to children and youth with emotional and behavioral disorders. Published articles may use within- or between-subject designs. Both quantitative and qualitative studies are considered appropriate, although to date most submissions have been quantitative in nature. Research, program evaluation reports, and position papers should be assessed for their social significance. Socially significant experimental investigations may be basic or applied in nature, although BD has a tradition of publishing applied research, especially studies related to assessment of and intervention with children and youth with emotional and behavioral disorders. Teacher educators, teachers, psychologists, administrators, and researchers with an interest in emotional and behavioral disorders constitute the majority of BD subscribers. Manuscripts must follow the format specified by the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (4th edition, 1994). Manuscripts should be typed double spaced (including quotations and references) on 8 1/2- by 11-inch paper with 1 1/2-inch margins. Titles should not exceed 15 words. An abstract of no more than 200 words should be printed on the page following the title page. Manuscripts of 15 to 25 pages in length, including references and tables or figures, are most suitable for publication. Accuracy and completeness of all references and permission to use copyrighted material, if required, is the responsibility of the author. Six (6) clear copies of the manuscript should be sent to the Editors at the address specified on the inside front cover of the journal.
| A letter of transmittal providing positions, addresses (including e-mail addresses), and telephone and fax numbers of each author should accompany each manuscript submit-ted. The Editors should be informed of changes in address occurring during the review process. Manuscripts received are screened for appropriateness of topic and quality before being sent out for review. Typically, manu-scripts are reviewed by at least three Consulting Editors and a guest reviewer who make recommendations to the Editors. Final decisions concerning publication are made by the Editors. The review process requires a min-imum of 3 months. During the review process inquiries may be addressed to the Editors. The Editors reserve the right to make changes in the wording that do not change the meaning of the text. Authors of accepted manuscripts will be asked to furnish clear copies of the accepted version and a copy of the text in Microsoft Word for Windows on a 3 1/2-inch disk. No charge is made for setup of standard-width tables. However, the cost of setup for tables that must be turned sideways or otherwise altered to fit on a standard page will be billed to authors. Camera-ready copy of figures and charts must be provided by the author(s) when the final version of the manuscript is submitted or authors will be billed for the cost of con-struction. To protect the rights of authors and the Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders publications, all material published in Behavioral Disorders is copyrighted. The author(s) of manuscripts accepted for publica-tion will be required to sign an agreement transferring copyright ownership to the Coun-cil for Children with Behavioral Disorders. The granting of rights and permission regarding the use of copyrighted material is handled by the Editors following policies laid down by the Publications Committee. Concerns, questions, or suggestions may be directed to the Editors or members of the Publications Committee whose names are printed on the inside back cover of BD. |
