It is an interdisciplinary forum for the exchange of ideas on this increasingly important region, published with the intention of promoting understanding. The specific aims and objectives of the journal are: to break down barriers between areas of study and between the worlds of academia, journalism, government and business to focus on issues of policy and act as a forum for the exchange of ideas from different fields of expertise to be global in perspective and not narrowly concerned with the interests of a specific country or political system Contributors include specialists in domestic and foreign politics, economics, businessand industrial issues, military strategy and cultural issues. Indeed in the Pacific Review you will find the disciplines talking to one another! The accessible nature of the Pacific Review and a focus on current policy issues make it a valuable source on information for the business community and government agencies in addition to academics.   Instructions to Authors Note to Authors: please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors. The Pacific Review welcomes contributions covering any aspect of the domestic politics, economics and international relations of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. While it is a peer reviewed journal, it is written for more than just an academic audience and thus it also aims to address issues of contemporary policy relevance and have a lively and readable style. We are also interested in material related to the concerns of Europeans and particularly encourage submissions that deal with aspects of the relationships between the two areas. Authors should submit 3 complete copies of their paper, with any original illustrations, to The Editor, Professor Richard Higgott, Department of Politics and International Studies, University of Warwick, Coventry CV4 7AL, UK; book reviews should be submitted to Dr Christopher W. Hughes, Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation, The University of Warwick, Coventry, CV4 7AL, UK. It will be assumed that the authors will keep a copy of their paper. Submission of both articles and book reviews should be in English, typed in double spacing (including all notes and references) on one side of A4 paper. English or American spelling is acceptable provided usage is consistent. Submission of an article will be taken to imply that it presents original, unpublished work not under consideration for publication elsewhere. By submitting a manuscript, the authors agree that the exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the article have been given to the Publishers. Permission to quote from or reproduce copyright material must be obtained by the authors before submission and acknowledgements should be included in the typescript, preferably in the form of an Acknowledgements section at the end of the paper, before the Notes. Where photographs or figures are reproduced, acknowledgement of source and copyright should be given in the caption. An abstract of the paper, of up to 300 words, should accompany the article. In addition a list of up to 6 key words, suitable for indexing, abstracting services and on-line searching purposes should be supplied. Articles should not normally exceed 8,000 words in length. If your word-processor is capable of doing a word count please use it to print this at the end of the text, together with the date of the manuscript. Notes should be kept to a minimum and placed at the end of the article before the References; footnotes should be avoided. A brief biographical note about each author should be supplied on a separate sheet. Details should be given of author's full postal and e-mail addresses as well as telephone and fax numbers. Authors are requested to send an electronic version of the finally accepted version of their article on disk, providing details of the make and model of the computer and the name and version number of the word-processing software used. It is important that authors ensure that their typescript is an exact printout of what is on the disk. Illustrations Tables, figures and plates should not be inserted within the pages of the manuscript but should be submitted on separate sheets attached to the article. Tables should be prepared with the minimum use of horizontal rules (usually three are sufficient) and avoiding vertical rules. It is important to provide clear copy of figures (not photocopies or faxes) which can be reproduced by the printer and do not require redrawing. Photographs should be high-contrast black and white glossy prints. The desired position for each table, figure and plate should be indicated in the manuscript. References The Harvard reference system, preferred in this journal, uses the name of the author, the date of publication and, following quoted material, the page reference as a key to the full bibliographical details set out in a list of References, which should include (in alphabetical order by author) every work cited in the text. Where there are two or more works by one author in the same year, these should be distinguished by using 1980a, 1980b etc. Authors are asked to ensure that dates, spelling and titles are used in the References are consistent with those listed in the text. The difficulty and expense involved in making amendments at the page proof stage make it essential for authors to prepare their typescripts carefully. This allows the author to print up to 50 copies, free of charge, and disseminate them to colleagues. In many cases this facility will be available up to two weeks prior to publication. Or, alternatively, corresponding authors will receive the traditional 50 offprints. A copy of the journal will be sent by post to all corresponding authors after publication.
